hello everyone,
I want to start doing something new, i'm going to post about rigging up a rifle with optics and mounts for a customer 2 or 3 times a week. I've been making videos for customers having issues to help them trouble shoot and walk them through processes and problems, now I want to do it just for general information and for everyone use. i'm starting today with this cooper model 52 we set up today. I'm hoping these post will help someone in the future if they have a similar set up, display our expertise and show you guys how we set up our customers, and it's something fun and entertaining. enough of the intro, i'll get to the main point.

Today, I had a gentleman come in with a cooper model 52 in 280 AI. he wanted something that fit the rifle, that performed well in low light, had moa reticle and moa adjustments, and could also use out to 700 yards. he also wanted more of a tactical scope. we looked at a few options and settled on the 3.5-15x50 nightforce with zero stop and moar reticle.

with this scope, he has the low light performance he wants, and with 15x magnification, he felt comfortable shooting out to 700 on a deer sized target. we took time to go outside and look at a target at distance to be sure. I explained the zero stop feature and how it could benefit him and he ended up wanted that feature as well.

once we figured out the scope, it was on to the mounts. since it's a hunting rig, he wanted something more akin to a hunting style mounting system. we settled on talley.

I've used talley mounts a good bit, on everything from rimfire rifles, to the tactical rings and picatinny rails, to dangerous game rifles going to Alaska and Africa. I like this system because it is a classic hunting system and they are still a very solid.
we went with this 2 piece base Talley Scope Mounts - Talley Scope Base 252736

next came rings. this rifle has a number 5 barrel, so it has plenty of taper, and the customer wanted room for scope covers, so I ended up going with a medium 30mm ring (1 inch optical center line)

these allowed for a good cheek wield and he had clearance for covers. when i was mounting it up, i measured 11 inches (a good starting point for any rifle) from the butt of the rifle to the rear ocular of the scope, everyone is a little different, but thats always a good place to start as far as scope position goes. recommended torq on the ring is 25 inch lbs, so I leveled, torqued, and bore sighted the rifle. I'll update this post when I hear back on how it performed.
