Haven't had the flu since childhood, but I did get a cold or something late last year for the first time since probably Bush 41 was in office. Bad living apparently has its benefits

Something hit me yesterday and all day I felt like I had been hit by the bus. I think it backed up to see what it had run over.
I was beginning to think Oneshot had sent some of his icky over my way.
Took some Tylenol and woke up this morning as normal as normal can be for me.
Have no idea what the hell it was

everyone take care of yourselves by eating well and maintaining quality hydration...
some super secret russian virus grabbed me by the balls and put me in the hospital...
4 days, never been overnight in the hospital before, i have been out for a week and i am still not right..
tighten your shit up, there is some crazy shit out there

I've not missed a day of work for being sick in 15+ years. This bug got me after Christmas and took me a month to get over it. My wife had it, pneumonia, ear infection and shit since Jan and is just now getting over it. This bug this year is a bad little bastard. Everyone I know has had it or something this year.

I don't wish it on anyone. Except Hillary... Definitely wish it on her.

I get flu shots every year which I guess does help. I still cough and sneeze like crazy during the cold months. Can't complain though because my doctor gives me codeine cough syrup which feels really good paired with beer and Trazodone. :D

I woke up yesterday morning with my gut churning and thought I was coming down with a stomach flu. By the time I got to work it had changed to a deep burning sensation in my lower intestine. By lunch it was hurting bad enough I was considering a trip to the ER. By 1:30 my wife was driving me there. By the time I got signed in and sat down, the pain/burning was a lot less. By the time they came to draw some blood I was barely hurting anymore, kind of feeling like an idiot and was seriously considering that I had made a bad choice and should just call it off before they started. I decided to see it through. Doc came in later and said I had elevated white count but otherwise OK on blood work. Probably viral infection but let's get an abdominal CT to make sure. 30 minutes later he comes back in with a smile and says, "You've got a classic case of appendicitis on that CT. We're calling in the surgeon to take it out. By 6:30 they were wheeling me into surgery, and by 10:30 I was back home, sans appendix. Pics of the appendix showed an abscessed area, very thin-walled and on the verge of rupture.

Bottom line - if I hadn't seen it through and let them do the workup after the pain went way down, it would have ruptured at home and I'd have been in a real mess.

Heal fast man!
As i read your storyi was thinking it was burst when you said the pain was nearly gone.

Flu this year is no joke. My oldest brother has it and says it sucks. Same brother elk hunted between 9,500-11,500 feet with 102 fevers and didnt say much except we took a few more breaks.

I was exposed to something a few weeks ago. Others who had it had been sick for weeks with congestion, coughing, headaches, etc.
At the first sign of a scratchy throat I began my tried and trusted regimen of Echinacea, Vitamin C, and Zinc.
It hit me like a hammer for three days straight, but I kept taking my recipe, and in two more days it was gone. I can't tell you if it was the flu or just a cold, but I can tell you that the trio of natural elements I used always work the same way. I still get symptoms, but typically it's over with in a very short time.

I do not take flu shots and I hate antibiotics.

I have not had the stomach virus this year. Neighbors have it going through their household at the moment, with four kids. They've been warned to stay on their side of the highway.

Ended up with ear and sinus infections Been so dry my sinuses got screwed up so I got some strong iodized salt and water and cleaned that out. Feels like your head is going to explode but takes care of that shit. But like an idiot I got some into my stomach and wrecked it. My sister didn't get a flu shot this year and ended up with it. She was down for three weeks. I keep telling people the flu epidemic killed off 5% of the world in 1918. It is nothing to mess around with. Kills a shit load of people each year. Check out the weekly or monthly [?] Morbidity and Mortality Report by the CDC. Gruesome death statistics. I sort of find it entertaining.

mike, take care of yourself homeboy, this shit aint no joke, you know me, i am fitter than 95 percent of fuckers...it still fucked me...
AND THE V A FUCKING ROCKS...

Mike,
I'm watching out for any weird signs. None so far. It kind of had me wondering last night though. Woke up right as rain.
The VA has some bad things going on, but my experience has been mostly positive.
My back doctor used to work there, then opened a private practice. I hunted him down and now let the insurance take care of the bill.
On a funnier note. Now that I'm feeling better, I dropped a wooden tray on my big toe. Gonna lose the nail, that's for sure.
Rebecca brought me an ice pack and said "My darling, if you wanted some attention, all you had to do was say something. You didn't have to hurt yourself."
Smartassed woman... ;^)

A renaissance man: fetishist, pederast (?), and addict.

No flu, just continuous sinus infections. Had sinus surgery 3 weeks ago now for a deviated septum, and a thorough irrigation. Hopefully no more infections. Nose is still crooked though, oh well.

I keep putting if off because it is not a pleasant operation. After the specialist described the whole procedure and recovery I was like WTF?

The week after sucked. Couldn't breath through my nose at all. They put splints in my nose to hold the septum straight. And there was a little bleeding constantly. The pain wasn't terrible after the first 3 days, they prescribed Norco for pain. After a week, the splints are pulled out, which doesn't hurt, and I went back to work the next day. I breath so much better through my nose now. It is a good idea to get it fixed.

I'm still sick free this winter...so far. Just been lucky I guess. I swear the last 4-5 loads of folks I've hauled have had a sick one in the bunch. That shit pisses me off! If you're sick, PLEASE stay home from work. A 550 mph mailing tube is full of recirculated air.

And when your toe is all swollen up and the nail is riding on nothing but one big bag of fluid, a delicately placed needle under the front of the nail is simply orgasmic. It's an "Oh Jesus" moment.....Just make sure there's no one standing in front of it when you lance it........or not. ;)

I don't travel for work as much as you might, but I do fly a lot more than I would like. It really pisses me off to get on a plane and hear people coughing, hacking, wheezing, and sneezing all over everyone. Stay home. I'm amazed I haven't been sick this year.

I have it now. I've been the last holdout. The family has been passing it around. Been kickin my rear for three days now. I haven't been this sick in 10 years. I'd rather be working than have this and that says something.

How deviated was it (in millimeters)? My wife had a CAT scan for that a few years back but never looked into surgery. She's laying next to me now making snot like a playdough fun factory.

I've yet to get sick this season. But I wash or saniwipe my hands like Howard Hughes.
