Soup can style rear bag, advice and impression.

Hi, I'm looking for a rear bag to use during tactical shooting sessions.

I currently have a rabbit ear type rear bag, which doesn't seem very suitable for this type of shooting.
Honestly, I'm not comfortable position when the rifle takes on a pronounced inclination.

That's why I'm thinking of buying a soup can type or pad type rear bag.
Always use by wringing it out.

Do you have any advice on what to buy ready-made or perhaps, if possible, and how, make it at home?
I don't remember which section of the forum but if I remember correctly the user named Taylor had one built by him.

I'm looking for one can style from Tactical Evo.
Whe have on 3 measures, I look for the large, are this measure correct or ridondant?

I have found the soup style rear bag to be extremely limiting as it really only has two height options.

Once in a PRS match I ran out of rear bag, and the stage was very challenging due to this.

These days I use a Black Branch Shooting Sports Gheko II with Spexlite as a rear bag and it works well in all scenarios I have encountered.

I’m with Stanley on this. I have 2 “soup can” rear bags. A tall (about the size of a 12 oz drink can) and a short (just a bit taller than a can of condensed milk). The tall is tall enough for he to get comfortable behind a rifle in the prone, but just doesn’t feel terribly stable. The short is too short for the prone, but can work from a bench. Both are kinda “one trick ponies.”

To add to the game changer, I’ll add the fortune cookie from Wiebad, and recently I’ve really been liking my pint sized waxed canvas game changer.all 3 are much more flexible than the soup can style, more stable than that style as well, and they also work admirably as from bags when necessary.

I like my weibad tater tot or my pint sized game changer, both in heavy sand. Not sure about whats available in italy.
You can maneuver them to act like the soup can style, but then you can use them as a positional bag as well.

I have shot a lot of bags over the years and have settled on these 2 and are pretty much all I use...Micro mini is a fantastic rear bag, very adjustable and solid....and the Micro tater tot for props...both bags with heavy fill sand.

I missed some details, I shoot prevalently from the bench; this next spring I make test to shoot prone.
I use the bipod, for now Harris bipod.

I like/use a Wiebad Mini Range Cube for my rear bag 90% of the time and it works great. It’s more like a big can of jalapeños than soup can sized but it’s a similar shape (cylinder).
If/when it’s not big enough I just stack it with a Cole-Tac plate bag or use my AG Plus One bag (my main positional bag) instead, but generally I don’t like sand-filled bags as a rear bag and think the Gamechanger-type shape can be a pain in the rear (literally) most times.

I'm pretty sure both Wiebad and Cole-Tac are available in the EU.

FWIW, the info on Wiebad's own site about the Mini Range Cube (and regular Range Cube) is wrong... the Mini Range Cube is 6"x4" and ~3lbs (while the regular Range Cube is a much larger/heavier 8"x6" and ~8lbs).

Also, the newer Cole-Tac flat bags are awesome. The older ones had straps that were too long, while the new ones have straps that are perfect for Gray Ops plates and they're about the same size/thing as the AG/Wiebad plate bags, just filled with poly beads (better than sand IMHO for tripod-rear stuff, which is what I mainly use it for, YMMV), and they're a few bucks cheaper than the others too.

Just buy a plus one game changer and use it for everything. Take about 2 to 3 lbs of sand out of it and I kneed the shit out of it with otter wax. Save your money for ammo and range time learning to use it.

And there are tons of others who rock 1 bag including top pros. Starting out there is no reason to go specialized until the gear starts becoming a limiting factor...which I can promise you for guys not at the top of their respected shooting sports...won't be.

Hello, yes also Wiebad re avaiilable on the EU linke Cole-Tac.
But Cole-Tac sell directly from EU the major of the product, Wiebad sell trhu Brownells Italia, selle that have a redundand catalog but the most expensive respect all other sellers...

I don't use the bag for PRS, but only for the rear bag.

Those work really well with 8mm airsoft poly fill. You'll probably end up with more than one type of rear bag, like holsters.

I don't shoot PRS. I bought a Cole-Tac a couple years ago now. At first I wasn't sure about it, wasn't sure I liked it, wasn't sure it was worth the money. After a while I realized I really like it, use it most of the time in one way or another and think the quality has turned out to be worth the cost.

Took a crappy snap shot the other day for someone and it happens to be in the photo. (Though the angle and the camera make it look larger than it is)

Little plastic balls around 1-2mm in diameter instead of sand. Lighter weight/less dense than sand.

Have your tried the plus one? I find that shooting off rocks and natural props it gets the gun a bit higher and prevents mag pressure issues. Not as good for small portholes but overall i haven't encountered a prop yet where I need something bigger. My shmediums stay in the truck as backups now. I do carry one with poly fill in case I need a ton of rest bag for shooting downhill or really weird props but it hardly ever gets used.

I haven’t had the need to. If you hold the shmedium at the top and shake it to make sure the rear of the bag is fully packed with sand you won’t run into mag clearance issues. Same goes for a mini fortune cookie.

Well, I don’t have to qualify shit to anyone because there are a couple of well known pros who have won loads of matches that are on record as having the same opinion I do, and who came to the same conclusion I did, so it makes where I finish moot (and that precisionrifleblog.com article I linked earlier came out after I’d already arrived at my opinion, but it’s nice to know great minds think alike lol).

No one has to trust my qualified/unqualified opinion that sand-filled bags don’t make the greatest rear-bags for everyone, you can trust them if you want, or better yet, try it yourself before you dismiss it.

My point was that if one doesn’t try new/other ways to do things besides what they already know, then they can never be certain that the way they do it or what they’re used to is truly the best way to go and it will hold them back eventually (and they might miss a great opportunity to find something that might work better for them, and maybe pick up a few points they wouldn’t have otherwise).
