Souviner 50bmg dummy rounds

A farm owner in the low country was kind enough to loan his land to myself and a shooting buddy for some ELR with my 50 and 2 338s. He asked for a spent cartridge but I wanted to make a realistic but completely safe 50bmg round (sand instead of powder) and an unshot primer with either the anvil removed or the incinerant dissolved out.

Any suggestions for safely dissolving out the primer incinerant or safely removing the anvil?

I have heard that getting oil into the primer can render it useless, but that it also wasn't a sure thing.

Is it absolutely necessary to use an unshot primer? Would be much easier (obviously) to just use a spent primer.
