I love my sp 01 but I want something more carry friendly and something bigger than my shield. Thinking about a glock 19 or 19x maybe get a slide cut for a rmr. Anyways having a hard time deciding never liked glock but shoot a glock 32 and really liked it. Any advice is appreciated.

Have you considered a cz 75 compact PCR, all the advantages of the sp01 with the size and weight of a g19
That, or the P-01 which is the compact version of the SP-01 right down to the full dustcover with 1913 rail.
I had a P-01 that I traded for a P-07
I should have kept it.
ETA: just in case you don't know this, the P-01 has an aluminum frame so its weight is barely over that of a Glock 19 and the same as a CZ P-07.
ETA2: As an engineer, I fucking hate when dumbasses call aluminum-framed pistols as "alloy frame" (which technically they are) to differentiate them from steel framed pistols. Steel is also an alloy, of iron.
I always lean toward pistols that point naturally for me. My litmus test is to pick a pistol up off the table with my eyes closed and point it at the wall with my normal two handed firing grip. I open my eyes and take note of where the sights are. Close to level front/rear sight alignment is the goal. You definitely don't want to have to go digging for the front sight if it is low. Level is perfect, but about half a blade high on the front sight is still good. As far as Glocks go, there is almost endless aftermarket support for trigger goodies and sights. Ugly as Glocks are, they have one of the lowest bore axis out there for a sub $700 pistol. I have all my Glocks set up with a sub 4lb trigger pull and Ameriglo Pro Glo front night sights.
P01 with full CGW package and Dawson sights. Don’t look back.
I have a CZ SP-01T, a Glock 45, Glock 19 that I bought as carry guns. I currenly only carry the Glock 45 (19 slide on 17 frame). I personally would either do the G45 again, and/or do a Sig P365/365XL.
I consider the P-01 and PCR to be kind of poor guns for concealed carry in the current market; they have a wider frame than the SP-01 to maintain capacity, they're heavy and still pretty large. A 15 round Glock 48 with Shield mags or a P365/XL with 10-12-15 round mags would be a sweet carry. I don't mind the full size G45 at all, I even run 4 miles with it in running shorts, but the CZ's don't lend themselves to that work in my mind.
Also get a top tier holster with claw like an ANR Designs, Tier1, etc.

The P-01's frame is marginally wider than an SP-01 by maybe .040" and it has nothing to do with maintaining capacity. They both use the same magazine and their grips are both just as wide.
Weigh a G45 full of ammo and then weigh a full P-01. Let me know what the difference is. Just looking at unloaded catalog weights, 3 and a half ounces. If that little is an issue, get a real belt and holster.

Thin, single stack pistols suck for shooting with their thin grips that let them swim in your hands.
If your looking at a glock g19 do yourself a favor and look at a shadow systems, same basic gun but night and day performance. I’ve seen the shadow systems for around 200 more, and it has a excellent barrel and the trigger is as good as any aftermarket trigger you could buy, and upgraded sights. For carry I went with the p365 just due to size.
I don’t own a P-01 because I don’t consider them an appropriate gun, as much as I wanted them they just don’t fit any role as well as a newer gun does. I wasn’t aware the mags were the same with the wider frame.
The G48 has a pretty modest grip for a single-ish stack gun. Being that Shield was able to make a double stack Mag for it, call it whatever you want. It’s really a Glock 19 that’s a little thinner and lighter.
Glock 19’s are good. I prefer a full size grip (G45), and I absolutely prefer gen5 over previous ones. The grip has a much better texture, controls are a little better, otherwise they’re very similar guns.
Having shot the 43, 43X, 48, Gen 5 19, P365, and P365XL side by side, I have a lot of thoughts here, but I'd rank the guns in terms of how comfortable they were to shoot/control in this order:
- G19
- P365XL
- G48
- P365
- 43X
- 43
I do think that the Gen 5 Glocks are an improvement over the Gen 4s in terms of ergonomics, and the stock triggers appear to have a more percepatible "wall" with a cleaner break than previous generations did.
If you want to carry something smaller than a G19 but don't want to give up capability, the P365XL is a really good choice, and conceals very comfortably.
I was thinking 19 cause I wanted something that checked more boxes than my shield. Something thats closer to a duty gun yet still easy to iwb. I also like the options you have with glock like a rmr etc. I would consider a 48 but does that make no sense already having a shield?
The Shield is a cheap and small gun, a 19 would certainly fit between the Shield and the SP-01. You might want to weigh the pro/cons of the Glock factory optic MOS mount or having the slide milled for it. The 48 is also in an MOS version now but they take the mini optics. A red dot 19 would be pretty gangster.
Thats why I debated selling my sp 01 to buy a new slide cut for an rmr. I mean thats 700+ more dollars right there with the micro dot. Obviously I don't want to much money into a edc so that would be max. Unless I want a suppressor down the road haha.
I have a full Cajunized SP-01T and it was a waste of money. It's absolutely better than a Glock. I normally shoot USPSA with my carry gun, and the CZ is way better, but at the same time it still sucks compared to a race gun. The MOS system has issues, lots of broken screws. I'd personally mill a factory slide (I don't see a reason to buy a new slide, just mill the one it comes with). That's what $200? You could also sell the SP-01, and pay for the Glock and the milling with that money, and the difference in price is red dot, mags, holster/mag carriers.
A shop close to me has a 45 mos for 640. I wouldn't know how to mill it myself I could hire a machinist but doubt they get to many of those around here.
Glad that I could help. The journey is a personal one for everyone, but that being said, it gets even more personal when you factor in holsters and whether you are carrying with a weaponlight. For IWB I strongly prefer a hard shell inner/outer, over pure leather or a hybrid design, but everyone's preferences (and reholstering requirements) vary.
As for milling, I would be very careful in having any machinist mill a slide - a buddy of mine found out the hard way with a Gen 5 19 that now wears a 45MOS upper half!
I don't have enough experience with RDS on handguns to recommend a particular company or component, but I bet that a quick search of the forums, or of SH will yield good information.
You ship it to a shop that does slide milling, there's no way I'd do that myself just because there's people doing it every day. Fast, consistent, recoated, good to go. Lots of companies doing it.
Then your comments about it don't carry any weight. It was my EDC for years before I transitioned to a P-07 then to a P-10C.
Quite honestly, if you want something G19 sized that comes ready for optics and has zero issues get a P-10C Optics Ready
It's the first pistol that's made me like striker actions.
The CZ OEM adapter plate system is bombproof. The plates are steel. There is a cruciform boss and recess interface between the bottom of the plates and the slide which takes all the X and Z plane loads leaving the screws to deal with the clamping load only (screws don't take any shear forces). The top of the plate has the correct bolt pattern and recoil bosses for the optics that they are designed for. And the screws that secure the optic to the plate have plenty of thread engagement.

Yes I was comparing. I would get the mos cause its cheaper but I read mixed reviews. Though I have no first hand knowledge.

It carries as easily as a Glock 19. I can carry mine all day !WB without a single complaint.
It's dead nuts reliable and accurate. Magazines fit 15 rounds and are shared with the P-07. It also takes the 19 round magazines from the P-10F and P-09.
Here's my competition P-10F with 10,183 rounds through it since I bought it in November of 2019. The very few malfunctions I've had were cause by me screwing around with recoil springs to tune it for competition.
the CZ P10s are really great guns, and while I don't own one, it's not because I don't want one. CZ pistols in general are extremely under-rated in the USA, and the P10 series of guns shoot extremely well and the stock trigger is much nicer than a Glock trigger. The P10C also fits into Glock 19 holsters if I remember correctly... Definitely worth a look.
@308pirate that's a great looking CZ! What process do you use to apply the texturing to your grip, or is that just skateboard tape or 3M Safety-Walk?
I prefer the P10C the the G19. I wouldn't want to IWB carry either of them but I know a lot of ppl do it.
I, too, am a fan of the P10c however I had my slide milled by Jagerwerks up in Michigan (At the time I had it done, I had the slide back 1 week to the day from when I shipped it but didn't have the cerakote it). A lot of people joke that all CZ did was take a Glock 19 and fix all of it's "shortcomings" so essentially a P10c is a Czechoslovakian Glock, the P10c will even fit, with good retention, in many of the G19 holsters. Definitely give them a look if you haven't before.
It's silicon carbide, 36 grit.
I sand/grind the texture off, clean with acetone, mask with tape, apply a thin layer of epoxy (I use JB Weld because I have lots of it), then pack the silicone carbide on. Let the epoxy set about 30 min the carefully remove the tape.
Let it dry overnight, brush off the excess, and done.
Yes, I did the stippling on the P-10C and the silicon carbide grit on the P-10F.

I like the 07 also seems almost the same size as the 10. How do you think they compare? Honestly I don't know alot about cz striker fire. Just the 75 series when I got my sp 01.
The only thing that it doesn't do it take Glock mags... In all seriousness though, I feel a bit of CZ fever coming on myself!
I've found that comfortably carrying a G19-sized handgun is more about the belt/holster combination and the position that you carry it, and less about the actual gun. The only thing that really makes a reasonable difference on the gun side is grip length and gun width.
Awesome info, thanks for the tip. Looks like I might have a few new projects coming up. Been using skateboard tape on front straps for a while, but your setup looks like it provides a lot more grip.
Size wise they are comparable, with the -10C having a lower bore axis because it doesn't need to make room for the hammer. I'm fine with DA/SA or strikers at this point. In fact I love shooting my DAO wheelguns too.
Ergos are a bit different. The P-07/P-09 has a flatter grip sides compared to the more contoured sides of the P-10 series. Kinda like a 75 with thin LOK grips panels. The backstrap shapes on the P-07/P-09 don't have as much hump as the P-10s do. I'm currently using and like best the large backstrap on both my P-10s because they give me almost a Glock like wrist angle and makes recoil control so much easier.
36 grit silicon carbide is AGGRESSIVE. Much more so than 3M Safety Walk. I only use it on my match guns.
The first time I did carbide on the P-10F I used 60/90 grit which is much milder and what I would use for a carry gun.
I think I remember that you didn't like the P10C. I think it had to do with the hard wall in the trigger. I'm not trolling you this time, just wondering what changed your mind.
AIWB every day and in a RHT duty holster while on duty. CZ is the way when it comes to handguns.
