Folks, kinda tired been out all day shooting my new Spartan built Remington 700 in 308 Win.
Specs are simple:
24" Mike Rock 1x11.27 5r M24 taper bbl
Manners T1 stock with spacer system
Remington 700 SA
Badger M5 detachable magazine assembly
Marc, and I have known each other for a decade and I hve always known him to be a very precise shooter so when he went off to school and became a gunsmith I did not hesitate to send him parts for a build.
I knew he had trained under some of the best smiths in the country and had seen his own work, so I knew I was not taking much of a chance on a new smith.
The build was done pretty quick and then sent to Todd at Phantom finishing for his art work. Everything was finished ina desert themed camo, including the new 5-20x50SS HD Scope.
When I took the rifle home and exaimined it closely I was very impressed with the workmanship. Lots of attention to detail in both Marc and Todd's work.
The bedding job was World Class with all edges perfect and the fit as good as I have seen.
The stock Remington trigger was turned into a great 2lbs trigger. It was so good I felt I had to take the action from stock to make sure he had not changed the trigger. It was a massaged Remington when checked.
Crown was perfect, bolt operated very smoothly. I could find nothing worng or less than best work anywhere in the rig.
I went to the range and started shooting. I know many dont believe in break in but I did the one round then clean for ten rounds thing just to be safe. Then I shot for groups. The rifle is an absolute laser, tossing one round into the lats hole time and time again
Over all I shot approximately 120 rounds ( 119 to be exact)through the rifle today and all groups where sub .50 moa, with many in the .15-.25moa range. The rifle did not shoot one bad group at all.
I could not be more impressed with the rifle or the finish work. If your looking for a smith or some finish work Marc of Spartan Rifles and Todd of Phantom Finishing are great choices.
More to come on rifle and scope ( scope performed fantastic as well)
