You ever get the feeling that you are being watched? Distance is 300m. Two cats watching me and a friend trying to lure in some of the local coyote population. All of the coyotes that howled back were quite a distance off. These cats were not very happy with our intrusion. Needless to say, no coyotes came in.

+2 (one for each cat)

Yes, Mt. Lion tastes pretty good.

I'd wouldn't recommend trying coyote though, unless it's absolutely a life or death situation. Even then, I'd recommend just about anything else you could find.

Re: ...speaking of kitty...

Now that is cool. No license/permit necessary here in Texas to shoot lions (other than a hunting license). I would have waited til they were lined up and tried to cook both with one shot.

Re: ...speaking of kitty...

The wind seemed as though it was coming down the hill at us. Very gentle, however. I've never shot a cat, I don't even know how I would go about skinning it, cooking it etc. I've never bought a tag, so I don't know if it is a game management unit specific hunt or not. I've caught glimpses of them before, but never been observed...at least that I know of!

It was cool to see them doing what they do best. It was a pretty uneasy feeling having them watch us like a house cat watches a toy. Very intense getting eye fucked with it's tail swishing back and forth. There was a herd of about 15 mulies off to the right. I think that may have had their attention as well. Hopefully the deer were a distraction from hunting us!

Re: ...speaking of kitty...

I know one of the last cats they took in ND this year was working up on the backside of a guy predator hunting. Definitely want to keep an eye or 10 out if you are out and imitating like food.

A friend of mine is known for saying on hikes/hunting etc. "How many bear/mountain lion did you see today" "none" "how many saw you? all of them"

that's about right.

Re: ...speaking of kitty...

We have had one recently on our place in the Hill Country here. I frequently go out alone at night varmint hunting, now I carry a sidearm as well, and keep the head on a 360.

Seeing the tracks after a rain is a wild experience..... I know he/she/it was here, last night....

OH man that Pic. is great. The Right Place, The Right Time & with a Camera Also with a little time . SAweeeeeet .

I have been hunting @ night and knowing there is cat and that I am using his territory. Never saw one @ night yet but It's always in the back of your mind & it's a wields feeling.
My brother got stalked a few years back Bow hunting deer & on a stalk. It made a lasting impression to this day on him. He said he had this 'Feeling', As he was crouched low , he rolled his head around and the cat was less than 50 yrd's @ his 6/blind-spot and also crouched and watching.

Being that a big Cats natural technique and skill is to hunt and kill by the Ambush. Chances are you will never hear it see it coming till his Jaws are locked around the backside lower-base of you neck .
I have been told. The Cats Jaws shape and bit pattern are designed for the perfect fit. the dislocation & breaking of the Vertebrae and separation of the spinal column @ the prime point of ambush attack point. ( the back of Neck) . Also since your only going to be Paralyzed and not instantly killed by the ambush & Maul. You will be brain-alive enough to know your being eaten, drug-off or covered-up for a latter snack.
Funny how Nature works in its design of helping to feed it's hunters.

sfp MK4 6.5x20. We milled the cats and then went back and measured my friends' german shepard that weighs in at 103 lbs. We estimated the cat should be in the 150-175 lb class based on the approximated difference between the measures of said dog/cat.
