Alright guys,
I way overthink things. Looking at building a SBR Ar-15. So far, what I know I want is...

Gas Piston Upper

10.5" barrel as to not loose too much velocity as I have heard that is as short as you can go without really loosing it.

Also, wanting to keep the weight down on this one.

Might, end up running a small light of some sort on it so I am thinking rails on handguard.

Intent will be to run a can on it in the future.

I am wanting an EOTech right now but am open to suggestions on that.

Flip up rear sight.

Front sight, still unsure. Leaning towards a folding A2 style to keep the handguard length down and still be able to have a folding front sight.

What i am looking for from you guys,

What brand upper?

What handguard?

Would you go full gun from that company or,

What brand lower? Having a very hard time looking at all these..

What trigger?

What stock? Looking for a collapsible stock (lightweight)

What LPK?

The whole idea behind this gun is to be 16" of barrel with suppressor installed. Gun would need to be reliable of course and would like to function with sub sonic as well as super sonic ammo.

Light Weight is a main objective as well. No need in a short gun ending up weighing as much as a longer one.

Re: Spec out my SBR AR-15

One option for an AR-15 lower is Calvary Arms.

Its polymer, so its about a pound lighter than a standard lower receiver/butt stock. Its gotten great reviews, although I've never used one myself, but I'm planning it on a future SBR build. I know you said collopsable stock, but I just thought I would throw it out there.

If you don't like the fixed butt stock design of the calvary arms lower, then which lower you get really doesn't matter. Get on with a roll mark you like, they are really all the same anyway, just avoid Vulcan/Hesse.

As for all the other questions, there are hundreds of different options, and without knowing what you are looking for out of this gun, its going to be tough to determine what is best for you.

Here is what the calvary arms lower looks like;

Looking for a CQB set up. Light and Fast target aquistion.
Not an operator, just building the next toy.
Not interested in the poly lower, have not seen that tho.

Re: Spec out my SBR AR-15

I have a 11.5 Mike Rock barrel with LMT upper. Mine runs like a top. I also use a heavy buffer. I run a SAS can. I just sold my Aimpoint ML2 to upgrade to a M4. Its naked with MBUIS on it right now. I chose Aimpoint over Eotech from all the horror stories about battery leakage and shutdowns during fire.
Alot of info on ARFCOM.

Dont take them to seriously. I have heard some SERIOUS bullshit come from that place. They are mostly mall ninjas and a few decent guys.

I have owned several Eotechs with zero issues and they have all been put thru hard carbine courses.

Im a fan of Rock River lowers when I build SBR's. Barrel you could pick almost anyone and be good. Shorter the barrel the more your accuracy will open up at distances.

Re: Spec out my SBR AR-15

I have a LWRC 10.5" sbr. It sure is fun to shoot. I had a 4moa aimpoint on it, but I decided that I liked the reticle on the eotech much better. I have put over 1K rounds through the thing with zero failure to feed or failure to fire issues- not one!

I took off the vltor stock and replaced it with the small magpul one- it seemed to work better with the small gun.

I heard somewhere that I need to somehow register this thing???

Re: Spec out my SBR AR-15

dtac,
The LWRC is one that I have been looking at. I really like it.
I am just having a hard time making my mind up. Since it will have to be a NFA registered Lower, I really want to get a lower that I will be happy with. There is no changing the lower after it is registered, so I dont know...
do LWRC full gun or go with a Seekins or POF lower?
Just too many choices.

Thanks for the pics and info on the LWRC...

If you have time, shoot me a weight on the gun unloaded with the EOtech please.

Thanks,
Rick

I hope he is joking! The ATF is surely tracking him right now.... you have to know they monitor sites like this for sure.

Re: Spec out my SBR AR-15

For a 10.5" Piston Upper, definitely check into he LWRC uppers. I prefer the Vltor E-Mod stock, but for a lightweight build, the magpul is nice also. The EOTech XPS is real nice and also check out the Aimpoint T1, which is even lighter.

Of course I am joking! I submitted the form 1 application right after I took the pics. It's ok to shoot it while they are approving the application, right?

Now I will be able to sleep.

I dont think I would joke like that on here... they really do watch these sites.

Re: Spec out my SBR AR-15

KYshooter-

My last post wasn't a joke. I wanted to be clear as possible that I applied for and received the stamp that allows me to possess this class III weapon. You are probably right about the ATF monitoring this site and I didn't want there to be any questions about the legal status of my LWRC.

Thanks.
