Spigot mounts - useful?

I've debating getting a spigot mount for my KRG Bravo chassis (PVA built TL3 action with 24" Rock Creek barrel in 6mm Creedmore). What are the benefits?
A) It extends your bipod farther forward, but does 2-3 inches make a perceivable difference?
B) It gets the bipod closer to the bore line, but again, is there any real world difference.

Also it costs $122 and it adds 5 ounces to the front of your rifle. Overall weight and balance are important to me. Do the pros outweigh the cons?

I have one and believe the more forward the more stable and accurate it makes the shot.

I've always wondered where the factual data is to support the internet tribal knowledge that having the bipod farther fwd and closer to bore centerline improves accuracy.

Experience has nothing to do with math. The more distance there is between the butt stock and the axis of rotation the lesser the deflection will be.

1/2" of buttstock movement will be result in a lesser degree of muzzle movement with the bipod at the muzzle than with it half way in between.

If you have a bipod 20" away 1/2" of lateral butt stock movement will be .0004 degrees of movement, if the bipod is 26" away its .0003 degrees. The longer the arc the more linear distance it takes to make up the same rotational change. (1 moa is .0167 degrees)

I wish I were better with my math terminology but its been a few years since college so Im failing to remember

Now, how much difference will that make in the real world shooting scenario? Probably not much. But that doesnt mean that its not best to move it out as far as practical.

I got a spigot for my xray because it put the bipod further out and closer up but it also puts the bipod mount on steel rather than trying to sandwich the foreend plastic and air gap in between as well as allowing for the flush cup sling attachment. Some use them to mount their night vision bridge on. Theres more to it than just putting the bipod out a bit further.

So much for the math.....now rest your rifle on a bag close to your magazine and shoot then move the bag out to the end of your forend and try it. Experience! :)
