Rifle Scopes spotting scopes.

Re: spotting scopes.

What do you consider to be "affordable?" Having a better idea of your budget range will give readers a lot more to work with.

That said, the Vortex spotters are absolutely a good option that won't break the bank (unless your bank is only $200 or something ridiculous like that)!

Re: spotting scopes.

Kowa makes fantastic scopes at moderate prices($500-$700) and at the high end. I think you need to be spending at least $500 to get into the range of scopes that are good quality, but I have seen one or two really cheap scopes that were pretty darned good. Of course, then their durability is suspect..had to have cut corners somewhere to get the price that low.

"clear image at 800 yards." Clear image of what? You actually don't need all that great a scope for highpower competitions. It's when you are hunting that a top scope is important.

Re: spotting scopes.

I have the U.S Optics field spotter. I used it throughout this entire elk season and loved it. But please keep in mind this scope was designed for the Marines and has about a 3in eye relief for gas mask use so some have trouble getting accustomed to it. My Mexi fry bro-in-law were spotting turkeys at about 1200k. Picking up holes on paper beyond 300 becomes quite the accomplishment. I think you're going to be heading into a much higher price range if thats what you're looking for. I got mine with the MOA reticle and have had awesome ranging success with it. My two cents.

Re: spotting scopes.

+1 for the USO Spotter.

I've been using it for spotting hits on targets (with a dirt/sand backdrop) out to 1300 yds. I too have the MOA reticle and am very happy with it.

Re: spotting scopes.

Depend's on your price range, application, and is size a concern. The B&L Elite 20-60x80 is an excelent scope other than size. It's just a lot larger than I care to drog with me any where other than the range.

Re: spotting scopes.

I've been running a Kowa 20-40 for 5 years. On a good day like our last match I could spot 30 cal holes at 700 yards. This isn't the norm, but I love this scope for its size and value.

Re: spotting scopes.

Another +1 on the USO spotter. I am one of the "ones" that has a hard time with the eye relief but I got a fellow hide member"AOD" to hook me up, I brought him the eye piece and a short piece of aluminum tubing and he put some threads on it to match the inside of the eye piece. I am just going to keep chopping down the "extension" till I have it set where its comfortable to use.
