SPR Decisions. LMT MRP vs HK MR556 A4

I have a OTB griffin can, Leupold 2-10x w/piggyback DPP that needs to be attached to a SPR. My question is do i go with a LMT MRP Quad setup or use the MR556 A4 as a platofrm. The HK would be a touch more expensive. The LMT would be all factory but with a Proof SS barrel converted for use.

I went with the MR556 A4 and converted to a SPR setup via B5 sopmod stock and a geissele rail. Couldnt be happier. See below for details (1/2" 10 round groups, good velocity, super soft shooting)

The LMT with a converted Proof SS barrel would be my choice. I have a Bartlien/Craddock barrel on the way to be converted for my new LMT MRP.

The HK is said to shoot very well from the factory, if you were retaining factory barrels, I would chose the HK between the two.

Both wildly overrated and overpriced given what’s available today. Both will ultimately shoot well but cost and proprietary bullshit are part of the package.

I agree with @dms4 and I also rode with HK for a long time and run LMTs now....the Hbar Geissele uppers have been serious shooters from what I've seen and that's just one of the many options nowadays.

That being said, if you're set on a quad LMT I have a rifle length quad upper I'd give you a deal on stripped or complete.

My old LMTs shot well with the exception of a 16”308 that was a dog of a barrel.

Remembering Centurion arms, I think an “hbar” marking is cool despite some really not being true hbar profiles.

In true gun reg idiocy, it probably wouldn’t matter if it were fat as fuck but no marking means no compliance….

Yeah man, it’s wildly dumb. You can have a solid 1” barrel, but if it’s not marked HBAR, it’s illegal. And the worst part? They don’t even clearly define who’s supposed to mark it or what “advertised” even means. Best people can understand it just has to be listed as "heavy" on the sale site.

That said, Centurion Arms not only markets their barrels as heavy profile but will also engrave them for you. Another sleeper option is Criterion. I’ve got two of their Core barrels (definitely not “HBAR”), and if you leave a note in the order comments, they’ll engrave it for you free of charge.

So I have an LMT with a proof barrel converted by DWilson. I also have the new HK MR556 A4. I am not sure what you want to do with the rifles but having shot both I prefer the HK. Both of my rifles have 16" barrels and the HK shoots better than the LMT. By better I will explain, to me the perceived recoil of the HK is less. When I get behind the scope the HK jumps around less than the LMT but neither of them pulls me off target. I have tried multiple factory ammos on both, with every 77 grain iteration I have tried the HK shoots tighter groups than the LMT. The thing that really pushes it over the top for me is the new warranty from HK, if you shoot the barrel out they will replace it. It is a lifetime warranty.

Just predicting this forum, when I am at my best I can shoot 1.3 to 1.4 moa with the LMT. I have three hundred rounds through the HK and I have shot three ten shot groups in the 1.1 moa range. My friend (who is better than me) has shot to ten shot groups with the HK in the high .8 moa range at 100 yard with 77 grain IMI razorcore.

If it was me looking for a factory built SPR, I would be looking at systems that were designed with the intention of being very accurate.

My Geissele 14.5" upper is absolutely fantastic, I have nothing but love for them. The 6ARC GFR again is absolutely fantastic, and they have options available that are probably closer to an SPR. I don't own a Ridgeline but have seen them shot around me several times including recently at a Bruiser class and it looks like a fine rifle.

+1 for an LMT MRP build or Ridgeline upper. Done both, both are shooters.

my LMT with SS was a laser and recently put together an 18 inch ss 5.56 but haven't shot it yet. will report back on accuracy

that said, if buying today, I go CM4 by Centurion Arms and don't look back. These are like old noveske and LaRue for accuracy and the quality in build is outstanding

Mars MRP Mlok 13.25 with the DWilson Arca rails and 16” barrel with your Griffin can will be a nice fit. Alternatively Specwar and 14.5 barrel.

Ok well i went with the MR556 because im a HK nut hugger now (my mr762a4 shoots like a dream). Tossed a g rail on there and B5 sopmod stock. Put 2 mags through the rifle to get the barrel semi broken in then printed a 1/2" 10 shot group with AAC 77gr OTM (about 2670 fps)

Ran it in the suppressed setting the whole time and it was SMOOTH. Ill be messing with their gas jets as soon as they are released to the public to slow down the S setting a bit. While it was perfect it would still cycle with the can off, just meaning it can be tuned down a bit

That is very impressive accuracy, HK knows how to build a barrel. I love LMT, but you are not going to get that level of accuracy from a factory 5.56 LMT barrel.

I just sent off a Bartlein barrel to D Wilson for LMT conversion for my new LMT MRP rifle. Part of me wishes I just bought the HK instead, but I am an unapologetic LMT whore, so I will continue to dump money into my rifle until I'm happy with it
