I recently purchased a SA mil-spec 1911. Kinda new to the handgun scene and got a couple of questions. I like the parkerized finish over blue or stainless, but am hearing from a few of the guys who shoot 1911's that I should have gun treated with Black T or Armoury Kote? Any opinons on this?

I am a plinker, not a competitive shooter. What modifications if any, should I have done to my pistol? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Re: Springfield Armory Mil-spec

I generally advise people to shoot the gun awhile and then decide what upgrades YOU want because there are a ton of options and what works for everyone else may not work for you. The same goes to finishes, I don't refinish a pistol until it needs it and if you are not carrying it then you may not have need for either of those options.

Hit one of the 1911 forums to get all the opinions you can take.

I have the same one.. the finish is plenty durable as is. Mine is one of my carry guns and still looks like new. Like said above, put a few thousand rounds down it, then decide what you want. It may just be perfect the way it is. For what it's worth all I have done is polish the internals myself, add an arched magwell, an EGW barrel bushing, VZ grips and ambi thumb safety. The best bang for your buck starting out would be to get the trigger worked as it is pretty heavy from the factory.

Good luck!

I have to agree with DirtyRod on this.
Shoot it and you'll eventually find out what will work for you.
After you get the fitting of extra parts on it get it Hard Chromed in a brushed finish.

go shoot it tell you get bored with it and then start changing things up. It doesn't need anything out of the box except mags and bullets.
