So i was wondering if you guys thought that 3k was too much to pay for this setup- standard 22" m1a - round count under 200 - made in 2003 with the navy colored sage ebr stock. Actually, did springfield still put chrome lined barrels in then?

Re: springfield m1a standard with navy color sage ebr

Can you offer up a picture?
Does the rifle have any USGI parts?

A 2003 Springer could have a chrome lined barrel.

Re: springfield m1a standard with navy color sage ebr

I called springfield and they said that the particular serial number i'm inquiring about originally came with a collector USGI stock. It doesn't have a chrome barrel, and the USGI parts are mixed with the Springfield manufactured parts. Looks like i'll have to read up on how to post pics - i have a couple.
I also did a little more research on the gun... looks like they discontinued the navy color (black is still made) sage ebr stock and the "suggested" manufacturers price on the gun is $1640. Hmmm... i think i saw a navy sage ebr stock go for 900+ on gunbroker... still that's below 3k

There is a rare 1 of 25 full length Navy Seal Gray(NSG)SAGE EBR
stock made in 2004 that would make the package more valuable.

The first ones had a full length 13.0" rail. Production on these stopped in 2005 and it was replaced by the current chassis with a 11.25" top rail dubbed the "chop mod".

Re: springfield m1a standard with navy color sage ebr

turned out it's possible that the rifle i was thinking of purchasing may be misrepresented as an original navy/sage ebr.

Edit: It is a possible early prototype that Crane NSWC modified - and it is the original color of navy/grey.

Re: springfield m1a standard with navy color sage ebr

so i'm talking with a couple people... and the gun i'm thinking of buying may be an early prototype sage ebr that crane took and modified.

Re: springfield m1a standard with navy color sage ebr

This could turn out to be a very interesting and possibly rare SAGE EBR stock.

Good luck!

Re: springfield m1a standard with navy color sage ebr

I just got a response back from Crane NSWC and got to speak with one of the people that modified the actual stock from sage... it is indeed one of those and there were only a few. I also confirmed this with a person at Sage that worked with the person at Crane. Apparently, these few stocks were only sold to the military. The private party i am buying it from was in the military a little while ago. I'll post pics as soon i am done evaluating it myself.

I have one of the 25 and for 3k about fair depending on the rifle itself. If lots of GI parts (Trigger grp, Oprod, Bolt, etc) if not then a tad high. Stock is about $700, base rifle$1800+- If original 1 of 25 than a litle more for the rarity. Depends on what you want to spend. I have a PreBan Bush all GI except reciever and barrel, and I wouldn't sell mine for less than 3K.
