I have a Springfield M1A, had it about 10 or 15 years ser# 091260 I am trying to get an idea of what is worth, will probably sell it.

When I bought it, I was told it was a national match rifle, how do you tell if it is national match?

thanks

Re: Springfield M1A

If it's a NM rifle, it will have the heavy barrel, NM front and rear sight, NM flash hider, and NM trigger group. My advice is to call Springfield, based on the S/N they can verify what the rifle was built as.

Re: Springfield M1A

Wont be worth as much as it was just a year or two ago. But early ones are usually worth more cause they tend to have more GI parts. If it was build by a good plumber other than SAI, its probably going to fetch more. Only way to know is look at the parts and see what its got. Post pics if you can and look at all the markings, etc.

Your receiver was born in 1995.

Also, there are no M1As built on forged receivers, ALL M1As are built on investment cast receivers.

Not all NM M1As had heavy barrels, in fact more had standard weight barrels the the heavy barrel. But they did have NM sights, the rear had a hood that gave you 1/2 elevation changes and windage was 1/2 min clicks. The Front sight was tapered, thinner at the front, to give you a clear front sight even if you had the rifle angled a bit in aiming. The flash suppresser was the same as the standard except it was reamed with a #7 Reamer. The stock was bedded, and impregnated to keep out moisture. They also had NM stamped on the operating rod. The operating rod guide was round, not flat like the standard grades. The gas system was gluded or silver sodered to the barrel guide making a somewhat floated barrel. You should be able to squeeze the forearm and notice it clears the stock guide.

I'm not sure of the value now days, I bought mine in 1977 for $295 (serial # 068XX), mine has since be converted to a super match by the Guard, since I was shooting for them at the time.
