Springfield Saint Upgrades

Thanks I really appreciate the links and help. Basically my intentions are to easily possess the normal platform or rifle I have with an option for long range. Right now I have a sig romeo 5 with a foregrip and standard bird cage. I'm looking to do some mods depending on future income/bonuses/covid back pay and of course my dream of having a slate pool table. Decisions decisions LoL. Again thanks for the suggestions I appreciate it. Could you also recommend any muzzle breaks for the standard 16 barrel ? Been researching and it seems the SJC Titan Comp is the best but also most violent towards those poor souls to the right and left of me and somewhat towards myself. Is there a such thing as a comp that isn't as bad on the shooter in terms of blowback ?
Any help is greatly appreciated

How long of range ? ... or what barrel length are you considering ?... And if you are going to assm. another upper, consider a free floated barrel for sure.

You might be pleasantly surprised by your current barrels performance.

As for muzzle devices... for a 5.56, IMHO you don't need the "most" effective ( %) brake.
For that matter the most effective ones tend to be the most annoying ones. Any "brake" that directs ( via the baffles ) some of the blast towards you will be blasty to you as well.
try to look for ones that have "closed" bottoms.. so you don't kick up a bunch of dirt from firing prone or kneeling.
I use VG6, Lantac, and BCM "brakes" and have been very happy with the results.

NOTE there is a huge difference between flash hiding and brakes.... the A2 does both reasonably well.

This link has numerous very simple, but effective tests for comparisons...

I'm thinking 20 inch unless you have any suggestions
Yeah from my experience in shooting it seems the one commonality through every platform is the consistency of the term trade offs...
You can make x better by making y worse or vice versa who knew Dr Thomas Sowell's words would translate to firearms.
Do you think I should just look for an upper ? I kinda want to go that route as I'm becoming less of a fan of the fixed front sight since it seems to limit options. Thanks for the feedback I appreciate it

Also is there a forum for questions regarding pistols ? if so where
Thanks in advance
I have some machinist and legality questions in terms of accessories or adding basically a machined block of dense metal to the front bottom of a pistol to eliminate the transfer of energy derived from the action of a semi auto slide basically attempting to weigh down the action and muzzle flip for cc pistols
I know the latest craze is ports in the barrel but in my experience personal and otherwise virtually every attempted mugging is less than arm's length away and at night and the ported barrel scenario reminds me of the hot dogs next to the chamber of a wheel gun and that flash is not good if eyes have already adjusted to night light if I'm incorrect on my assumption of the ports please let me know

White Oak Armament makes very well respected complete uppers.

If you want to shoot your AR at long range, buy a 20" barrel or upper, WOA is great. Rock River is decent as well. Don't shoot anything out of the magazine but 77s or single load 80s. An RDS is not going to be optimal for LR shooting, I'd get a scope. Muzzle brakes are for gaming unless a suppressor attaches to it. If you hate yourself and love concussion, buy an M4-72 IMO.

No, you don't currently need the JP stuff IMO. Crawl and walk before you run.

"Basically my intentions are to easily possess the normal platform or rifle I have with an option for long range."

When you say “long range”, what distances are you talking about, what access to ranges do you have, and what are common distances in your area?

What types of targets are you wanting to hit at long range, and what do you want the bullet to do when it arrives on the target?

Over 600 yards
Will I be basically lobbing the round in there at that distance ?

I live in Michigan and there's a range for up to 1000 yards

Types of targets= whatever they allow me to shoot at, at the range

you might be better off buying a complete upper from WOA, they are sub MOA and free floated for under 700. As for breaks, look for breaks that will also host a suppressor or a blast forward device. I like dead air.

In that case, I would leave the Saint alone mostly and either get another rifle for target, or at least a complete upper and a great trigger.

I would not stick with .223 Rem in this case, unless you hand-load and will shoot some of the newer high BC bullets.

Does the range have pits or steel targets?
