Spuhr SP-6016 (0 MIL/MOA) for AR?

I recently picked up a ZCO 420 and Spuhr SP-6016 to mount on my HK MR762, but wanted to check with the experts here to see if I should have held out for a mount with some elevation built in since the rail on the rifle doesn't have any. I'll have to crank the elevation on the scope way up to compensate for shooting at the short distances I'll be using the rifle at and am too much of a noob at this to know if this is a bad thing.

Appreciate any thoughts y'all have on this.

For closer ranges it’ll be fine. But for longer distances you’ll want at least a 20 MOA mount…….especially since you are shooting 308.

Yes, you want a mount with inclination. There’s no reason to run 0 inclination on a scope with that much available elevation; you’re essentially giving up half the elevation you paid for.

Agree with @TacticalDillhole . I run a SP-4616 on a Knights SR-25.

Agree on the inclination but the issue for me has been that spuhr (or anyone else I have found) doesn’t make 36mm with both inclination and cantilever so if you had a 34mm scope you can use the 4616 but with the ZCO you are forced to choose between the tilt and cantilever and I don’t want to cross the join on my sr25 6.5 between the rail on the action and the rail on the handguard? And eye relief not really right if don’t do that. I don’t think the HK has the monolithic rail like and LMT but has a join like the sr25? (I could easily be wrong.). Or maybe you can get sufficient eye relief without the cantilever?

I’ve never had an issue but that’s just me. We are all different and it greatly depends on your stock and LOP.

PRS Gen 3. Actually the LOP is still a tad too long even with that fully collapsed. Look how far over the join it would be without cantilever…. Maybe I have weird eyes.

I have my scopes further back than that, but if you have t-rex arms how is the Magpul too long?

Here’s the thing, and this is pure opinion. That ZCO is wasted on a 308 and a gas gun. You’d be better served getting a 4-16 atacr or some kind of LVPO and using that beautiful ZCO with all that elevation on a better flatter caliber.

now having said that, the big issue with gas guns and optics is charging handle interferences. That prs stock has a 13.5” minimum LOP, you will have to move that optic back. It will not work with the diopter flush with the charging handle.

I use a spuhr on all my gas guns but I’ve stopped running big optics on them too. I have one left to replace. I’ve gone LPVO or to the small 4-16 range that I suggested. My gas guns are purpose built and while many have the ability to reach a mile, their strength is in the under 1k, realistically it’s more like 800. I’ve also began replacing my prs gen 3 stocks because the LOP is just too long. It’s an awesome stock but they need to revise it in gen 4 for smaller LOP and or a collapsible version for gas guns.

Cody at F3R Machine (https://f3rmachine.com/product/1-50-height-36-mm-20-moa-one-piece-cantilever-scope-mount/) now makes a cantilevered 36mm mount with 20MOA of tilt! I am proud to be the Guinea pig and will report back once I have run them for a little while. Unfortunately they don’t fit my Hensoldt because of the unusual battery housing but I think it could be the thing for ZCOs. I am not sure he has lots of inventory yet but I may have an extra if anyone is desperate.

OP, you didn’t say how far you plan on shooting. The ZCO has 35 mrad of elevation in it, with zero moa you’ll get approximately 17 mils of travel, plug in your ballistics and atmospherics into a good ballistic software tool and see where you’re at, my guess is you’ll have more travel before your bullet hits transonic. For example, let’s say you plan to shoot max 1000 yards, and you have a muzzle velocity of 2600fps with 175 SMK’s, plug everything into the ballistic calculator and you might find you only need 11 mil of elevation at 1000 yards, which means your zero moa mount is fine for your intended goal.
