So I have a chance at 2 really nice deals and I am having trouble deciding. I can get into a BNIB SR-25 EMC for $4200, or a slightly used SCAR 17 for $2550. I do not own a 308 carbine at the moment and was not even planning on buying one, but I've caught the bug and it can't be helped. I could buy both however that would mean dumping my last 5.56 so I doubt I will do it. Whichever one I buy is going to have a Premier V8 sitting on top or perhaps a CQBSS if the deal is right. My goal is to make this a sort of 308 RECCE. I've handled the SCAR before and it was super feathery in its handling, does anyone know what the EMC is like? My brother is trying to buy an LMT MWS right now and after handling one at the range it is definitely not for me due to the balance of it. What kind of accuracy can I realistically expect from them with quality factory ammo? Your candor is appreciated!

SCAR, more reliable and accuracy is good to great, I tested the SR25 back in the early 90,s and was not impressed for the $$, use the saved money and get a good scope on the scar, I have DPMS 308, POF 308, M1A EBR, and FAL DSA, I am getting rid of all of them when My SCAR arrives that I have on order.

I only have a little experience with the 17, but I thought it was ok. Nothing special, imo. It's always cool to shoot new guns, though.
Lighter than it looks. I don't like a lot of plastic on guns, but that's how things are going nowadays.
KAC stuff is a tad pricey but they aren't primarily concerned with the civilian market, as you know.

My only concern about doing this is that if I don't like the EMC I don't know how easy it would be to sell for anything close to what I paid.

Coworker has a Scar-17 and it a great platform. His issue is magazines, if you go that route, make sure that you line up the appropriate number of mags.

I was planning to mod some PMAGS until the FN mags become more available. There is a guy on youtube who modded only the PMAG and got them to run reliably in the 17. For range use I figure those will be acceptable until the real thing shows up.

the ones I have shot (Uncle Sam) were with M118, average was 1MOA-1.5 with varied .75
but for a 16 inch light recoil and ease to stay on target rifle, I am good with that, and eventually the longer barrels will be released to the civilian market,as well as magazines in quantity once SF is full up on them.(at least I would think )

Go with the Knights. The SCARs I have all shot wandered when they get warm.
I have the 16" EMC and the LMT along with the GAP and POFs, to name a few. In fact about 5 different AR10 types. The custom ones are more accurate but the others can be sub MOA if you drive them right.
The LMT can be balanced with a new stock and different barrel if you are inclined. It's pretty versatile, and being picked up more and more.

If that is your criteria, stick with the Knights, but you can actually do more with the LMT.

Military use doesn't concern me at all, already had plenty of time with mil issue guns unfortunately =P My main issue with the LMT was the balance, but I'll see if I can find somebody running one with a UBR to feel the weight.

LMT is a great carbine. Lots of commercial options out there though so I'd step back and look at everything. GAP, Larue, APA, POF, PWS, no idea on the SCAR but some people jerk off over them so there has to be something cool about them...

My SCAR is staying around 1moa w/ 118LR [lots do vary].
I modded P-mags for range use and have had no probs with them.
Personally I can't see the justification for the MUCH higher priced EMC.

Get the EMC. It's hands down the best 308 Carbine out there! Period! The scar is a battle rifle. The EMC is a Match Battle rifle!! How can you go wrong!! I love mine!! Sd everything else after shooting the EMC. I too tested out some older KAC items. Even an Older MK11 Mod O. Could t see the money. Then the EMC came along so I decided to buy. I got the whole package with matching suppressor. I have never been so impressed. Shoots so soft I can stay at he range all day!! If you get the EMC for around 4 you won't have any trouble selling it!! Hell I might buy it!! Been wanting to buy another one any how!!!

This is the only one besides the LMT that I've been able to get my hands on locally. While it is a beautiful gun and shoots VERY well from my limited experience with it, it is too front heavy for me. I do most of my shooting off hand hence why this is an issue for me.

The 16" with CTR. The only thing holding me back right now from the KAC is my curiosity about building my own off a MA TEN with a URX rail. I think I could put the whole thing together for ~2K but the issue there is I'm not sure if I could get the recoil down to EMC like levels, or if I could keep the weight down.

I struggled with this as well, and ended up ordering a custom GAP-10. I tried to strike a balance between weight and usability, we'll see how it works when it gets here. I have played with POF's .308's and really liked how they felt so hopefully the GAP will be on par.
As for the MA-TEN it seems that results are hit or miss, and if it doesn't run you have no one to call to help you fix it---you're on your own. Please note this is not a slight on Mega as they make very nice products.
If I was in your shoes I would probably buy a Scar and run 5-600rds through it, then sell it if I didn't like it to buy the next one in the pecking order. But then again I always like to start at the bottom and work up...

Mega Monolithic or Mega with JP/Troy/Rainier free float tubes that don't weigh a lot and have removable rails. Recoil on a 308AR doesn't really bother me but if it did lots of people find an adjustable gas block is the solution (adj gas block = 70-80$).
edit: if you get the parts from rainier (I would they have their match barrels in stock) pretty sure they will assemble and headspace your upper for you. So then all you have to do is build the lower...easy peesy...

I built an ma10. I would take it over the emc most any day, as I can rock 260 and 308 with a simple upper swap, and build both uppers and have $2k left for optics.

Can't wait to evaluate this myself, it ended up that I'm selling my 16s to another member here to fund my 17s purchase. Hopefully FN makes a conversion kit down the road

I've shot everything with the exception of the OBR and I have owned am 18.5" GAP built AR-10, 20" GAP-10, 16" KAC EMC, 18" light contour JP LRP-07, and a 20" medium contour JP LRP-07.
Accuracy is my first priority, but I occasionally engage in tactical training and competitions where reliability, balance and weight become big factors. I have the same requirements when I hunt. I shoot suppressed whenever it's an option.
For my preferences, the EMC is the best 308 solution, especially when mobile and shooting up to 600 yards or so. The 20" JP is a very close second and can reach out just a bit further with it's higher MV. Both are lightweight (relatively speaking), smooth shooting, and lights out accurate. I ended up keeping both and selling the others.
Having said all that, I get great results hunting with a 6.8 spc II SBR which is almost 3 lbs lighter, has enough knock down for medium size game, and is accurate out to 300 yards or so. YMMV.

Price tag NIB is less than $4200, that's for sure. And it'll run as clean as the SCAR on top of that.
