I got a Rem 700 Tact. .308. Already have a 20MOA base on it and had a cheapo scope on it. Now I'm looking at the following:
SS 10x mil/mil
Seekins low rings
Seekins 0 or 20MOA base (or use my current base EGW)

Looking to shoot at 1k. Do I need a 20MOA base or can I get a 0MOA base and be good with that scope? Looking to lower my cheek weld because it's up there right now with at 20MOA and already have a pad on it. I have been reloading (using 168 SMK and Lapua brass, varget, fed primers but looking at adding the 175 SMKs for the 800-1k yds). I just want to hit a man sized target out to 1k. I can already do that at 600. Rifle is stock.

Re: SS 10x help with 0 or 20MOA base

According to my data you will only need a little over 10 mils at 1k or around 35moa . I have a mil/moa 10x SS and I have plenty of adjustment. I believe the fixed SS is supposed to be around 115 true moa of elevation adjustment so you should be fine with a flat base

Edit: Thats pushing a 168 AMAX at around 2850fps
11.2 mils up pushing a 175 SMK at 2650

Re: SS 10x help with 0 or 20MOA base

Even if you don't need the 20MOA, it won't hurt you either. As long as your scope is capable of zeroing with a 20MOA base, there is no advantage to using a flat base. Better to have it and not need it....

Here is a full review I just did on the non-HD model.

Also regarding the OP: with a 20 MOA base on my Rem 700 in 260 I have 24.5 mils of up left to go 20 MOA is about 5.5 mils, so with a zero MOA base you be in the neighborhood of 19 mils of up travel left. I would still recommend going with a 20 MOA base.....
