Apples and Oranges, or does anyone think the new SS 5-20 would give a USO SN-3 a run for the money?

I'm looking to replace the Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50 on my Barrett M99 with something a bit more powerful. Am I nuts for considering the SS?

I am going to buy a SS 5-20 but it won't supplant any of my SN-3's. I think it will be a great scope for the money, but all the comparisons to proven scopes is premature. It is what it is...knowing SS's history and my experience with several, a well executed optic. Worth the money, but not a wonder scope delivering at twice it's cost.

hmmm, do I think the SS will give a SN3 a run for the money... yes and no... for 90% of us the SS will do all we need, it will deliver a great scope for the money, great CS, be tough enough...

BUT for that other 10% that are top level competitors or have lives riding on their glass... I'd spend the extrat on the USO... as much as I like SS, I'll bet I'll never see Chris or Brady throw a SS scope across a room, and yeah I have seen a USO rep do it, USOs are are just tough...period

I don't thing the SS is going to be a USO, but for what you are asking for, if you want more power, then get the SS, unless you are going to go to up the TPAL 5-25, and then are you are really comparing apples to oranges. I have no doubt that the SS will hold up to the Barrett though.

I bet you would be surprised what SWFA and other users have done with SS scopes. I know one guy who ran over one with his truck. It was still zeroed when he picked it up and shot it. Another guy who threw his, mounted to his rifle and all out on the range, kicked it all the way to the target and back and it still had its zero.

Re: SS 5-20x50 vs. USO SN-3 T-PAL

I bet the SS will have better glass. Durability will probably go to the USO. Functioning (tracking) will probably be fine with both. I prefer USO's reticle choices, but that is subjective. I also prefer the fact the USO is made in the US; but that too is subjective.

Overall I bet that out in the field they'd be pretty similar.

Re: SS 5-20x50 vs. USO SN-3 T-PAL

There's only two or three people that can legitimately answer this question. Everyone else is making assumptions until they hit the market.

OP, your own budget and desires should give you the answer. Crazy for considering the SWFA, no, but a leap of faith none the less...

maybe monday I will toss the production scope for everyone... I have few other things to accomplish, but if I feel the mood I will toss it on camera.

I will say I have punished the SS-HD line and its been 100% bulletproof .
