Suppressors SS Sparrow

The sparrow has an O ring in front of the threads, a nice feature ot stop any blowback that might dirty-up the treads. SilencerCo sells adapters that screw on the end of the barrel that would take advantage of the O ring feature. I had my Ruger MKIII barrel machined exactly like the adapter, that way I wouldn't have to mess with the adapter at all.

I bought a Tac Sol upper for my Ruger Mark II in anticipation of my Sparrow tax stamp showing up. It isn't here yet, but really enjoying shooting the Tac Sol - changes the balance and feel of the pistol for sure.

So my gunsmith would have to chuck up the barrel assembly of my Mark 2 into his lathe and cut threads?

Correct. That's only if you are dead set on keeping the stock upper. If you want to lighten things up the Pac Light barrel swap would be idea. Pac-Lite Barrel Upgrade for the Ruger 22/45 and MK Series Pistols » Tactical Solutions

Just make sure that if you do have your smith cut your stock barrel that he uses SilencerCo's thread specs. If they use a longer thread spec like some do then you will have issues with the can not seating properly.

I have a Sparrow and LOVE it! I had my two CZ 452's threaded to the spec KHOOKs linked to. The Sparrow works great on the 22LR and 22WMR, although the 22WMR does have a supersonic crack to it. Aside from my SBR'd Nordic 22 upper (6.5") I also have a Walther P-22 Target (5" barrel) that I attach the Sparrow to via an adapter.

What is the barrel length on your Mk II?

One thing I found out about barrel length and bulk pack ammo (~1250fps). You need to have a maximium barrel length of 4.5" to keep bulk pack subsonic (~1080fps). I first noticed this issue during a conjugal between the Sparrow and my 5" P-22. It would go: puff-puff-crack-puff-crack-crack. My 6.5" Nordic upper will always crack unless I shoot CCI STD Velocity or target ammo in it. Now my 4.5" Ruger 22/45 (Ruger® 22/45? Threaded Barrel Rimfire Pistol Models ) will eat any and all bulk ammo and keep it subsonic.

Once I got accustomed to the relative silence of shooting 22LR supressed and subsonic I tend to prefer shooting that way, versus supressed and supersonic. YMMV.

SS Sparrow is GTG!!

I run my SS Sparrow on a 22/45 Lite, a Tac Sol Glock upper, and a Nordic Components .22 ar15 upper. Works awesome on all 3 (can't run subsonic in the Glock though.) I have the oring adapter on the Nordic upper but just run regular threads on the 2 pistols. Never had any problem with the threads getting too dirty.

i had my stock barrel threaded to the sparrows thread specs and the front sight moved back.

EDIT:

it's a MKII as well. i have a MKIII, and it sucks compared to my 2.

Seeing as how you have a Ruger you like, I would just change out the barrel with a Tac Sol barrel. Its quick and easy and give you a second barrel. I have a Mark III Hunter and I do switch the barrels back and forth as needed. I like the heavy feel but I enjoy shooting suppressed. The Sparrow is a sweet set up. You will love it.

My lite talo edition is probably the gun my friends most enjoy shooting. Added a bam bushing, volquartsen accurizing kit, fiber optic front sight, a set of Hogue wrap around grips and of course the muzzle device :D

The wrap around grips really help with the weight of the can hanging off the end. So much fun to shoot and great for kids to learn how to shoot pistol on since its cheap, accurate and quiet. Ive got a warlock coming that's half the weight of the spectre and sparrow just for this pistol to help with the nose heaviness.

Love my sparrow. My hosts are a cz 452 16" tb, ruger 2245 tb (the heavy steel version that came out about a year or so before the lite) and a 1022 with the barrel on its way back from Que of rimfire central fame. I shot my cz with it yesterday. It loves cci sv. I've been eye balling a s&w m&p 22 as another host pistol. I had a tac sol barrel for a while. It fit great on one mark 3 I had and loose on another. The breach face on it got chewed up pretty quickly. So I sold it. I believe the ruger 2245 lite has a steel breach face that should hold up better. I've seen the 2245 lite going for $375 on slick guns. I would buy one instead of paying $250-$300 for a tacsol barrel. I definitely wish I wouldn't have bought a tacsol and then had to sell it at a loss to finance what I should have bought in the first place.

I have a Sparrow that's used with a CZ Kadet (threaded by DIP Inc. aka hotrod9mm) and 452 16" threaded with DIP thread adapter. I haven't measured it myself but I read you can have a smith cut down the barrel and put proper 1/2-28 threads on it since the barrel is actually 17.xx long.

The Sparrow is really quiet with CCI Standard Velocity with the 452 and even quieter with subsonic ammo. On the pistol the report is still loud enough to wear ear pro when indoors or in an enclosed area. I plan on either picking up a SWR Spectre II or Ruger 22/45 LITE just to add some variety.
