Stag Arms Questions.....

I am looking at buying a left handed Stag. I was curious if anybody here had any experience with this rifle? I was curious as to how reliable they are, how accurate are they? Are they put together well? feel good in the hands when shooting? Any of comments are welcome as well! Thanks!

One of my friends on SWAT has a lefty Stag runs like a top. The only thing he does not like about it, is the fact that the dust cover swings up towards the rail, not down like the right handed version.

Ah I'd have to say 500 + or - we have never really sat down to group it, but durring the differnt drills we do, he keeps em in nice and tight. I am not sure what twist they use, if its a 1:9 or 1:7 we use the Federal FMJ for practice and use the Federal TRU for carry ammo.

I have a Stag lefty upper. I love it, have had ZERO problems with it. Probably 2500 rounds through it. The fit and finish were just as good as any other upper I have ever owned. Only had problems with it once, and that was complete operator error due to lack of maintenance.

I think Stag is just the commercial name for CMT, which does parts for Colt and Rock River?

I did not know that....Colt and RR are both nicely built weapons so if the parts are the same then I would have to say Stag should be a nice buy. Makes me want one even more!

On a scale of 1-10 I guess an 8, again its one of my team members that owns the Stag. I run a Spikes Tactical. Instead of buying a whole new AR why dont you just by the Lefty Upper from Stag and keep your lower and buy an ambi selector they are pretty inexpensive.

Because I can buy the entire gun for about 760 bucks. The complete upper is 5-6 hundred alone...might as well get the entire rifle!

Looking at getting the Stag 2LH 1 in 9 with a 16in bbl.

I have had a stag lefty in 556 for a while. My current upper is a replacement however. The first one would never zero (literally my scope ran out of vertical travel). I thought it was my scope. Changed scopes. same problem. I sent the upper in to stag and they replaced it. Top rail and barrel were 'out of spec'. Service was ok. Again, my current upper and rock river lower shoot very well.

This is good information to have! I would have thought it was the scope too. If I do get one of these...which I most likely will. Glad you posted this just in case I happen to get an upper out of spec.

I have the model 2. It's a great gun, I have not had a single malfunction to date. I use it for my patrol rifle. As far as accurracy, I haven't tried to sit down and do any spot shooting, mostly quals and just having fun, but I'm very satisfied with it. I have no problem keeping them inside a grapefruit out to 100 yards during qualification.

For what I would be using it for that would be accurate enough. It would have a eotech site or something similar on top of it so not looking to shoot long range. mostly just having fun with it and self-defense.

After trying to teach my wife to shoot right handed, I gave up and bought a left handed Stag Arms AR for her about two years ago. I put on a LMT SOPMOD stock and a Jard trigger group. The rifle runs great and is accurate enough for it's intended purpose, an AR style home defense weapon for my wife. I would recommend them to all southpaws.

Gonna play devil's advocate here..

Pat Rogers with EAG Tactical has seen a lot of lefty Stags go tits-up in his classes. The issues have centered around blown gas rings and excess premature wear. If you can get one that will work well, good for you. However, I would recommend that you do some more extensive research before you buy one.
Normally I don't give in to internet hype too quickly, but when the head a major training group says "left handed Stags continue to be 100% negative", it causes some pause.
Just something to think about.

USACS, I know what a blown gas ring is, but could you elaborate on "excess premature wear". Has Mr. Rogers seen this in other Stag Arms ARs or just the lefties?
I did a lot of research before I bought the Stag for my wife. I never heard anything negative about left handed Stags until I read your comments.

I think he was talking about the left-handed models, but I don't know if he has seen any issues with the normal models. If you hop onto Lightfighter.net you can PM him, and he'll probably give you the info.
Like I said, it's just food for thought for an alternative perpective. YMMV

My uncle has one and he wouldn't trade it for the world, he's the only lefty I know that shoots ARs though.

Well I went ahead and ordered this rifle, I went with the Stag 2LH with a 16in barrel. Was going to go with the 2TLH but I already have the 4 rail forearm.

I have a Stag 3HL on a Spikes lower....I love it. No problems yet, over 2,000 rounds through it.

I was a little worried about the flip-up dust cover, but it turned out to be a non-issue. The shells eject just fine even with the Burris PEPR mount.

Thats a nice Stag you have there! good looking hog too! I put about 50 rounds through it yesterday. 25 suppressed and 25 with the normal flash hider and the gun functioned flawlessly so far. I will post some pics of it later today if I can get around to it!

One thing that I am going to have to take off of it tho is the FSB. It is right in the way of my current red dot that I am going to put on it until I get either an aimpoint of eotech. Going to go with a flip up front sight so I can co-witness the red dot if needed.

I Have 2 Stag AR/15s Both are right hand and are great. I have put around 1000 rounds through My Stag 6 , I can and have shoot 3/4 inch groups. Last time out put 5 shoots in 1 half , And I am far from a great shoot. I am yet to ever have a issue of any kind. I mostly shoot Americen E. 556 Mil. Shoot the tight groups with 77 grain black hills red box new.
No issues , Stag makes a Great Rifle !

I think Stags are totally underrated. I had a model 6 that also was a solid .5 moa gun with good ammo. traded the upper for a national match upper that I paired with the stag lower. never a failure just a solid rig. their parent company produces a large quantity of parts for other manufacturers and builders

This is nuts , My stags work perfectly. hundreds of rounds of all types through them with out any issue ever. And I mean Never !
