yea,a book that i can't recommend highly enough. however, not the point. there are 2 chapters that deal with 1941,lend lease to russia, espionage work in the fdr admin, stalin's knowing exactly about pearl harbor and saying nothing, the deliberate ignoring of japanese negotiating efforts by the fdr admin, allowing open soviet military espionage of our arms manuf, placing pro stalin people in our moscow embassy, goading the japanese into pearl harbor attack.
the point is that this series of actions is almost exactly what happened re ukraine. deliberate goading of russia by pushing nato up to their border, sinking putins offer to stop the invasion, sending aid to ukraine that damages our military preparedness, having corrupt people running the whole program, sacrifice of innumerable people both civ and milit. the time line and sequence is almost scary in the way that it is exactly the same as in the early 40s.
tail gunner joe was way more right than he knew. at least in the 40s there was some congressional push back against fdr trying to start a war in order to save stalin. didn't work since pearl harbor pissed the population off here. the germany 1st plan was also a deliberate help to stalin.
