Start fresh or rebarrel?

So I have a Winchester model 70 sporter magnum in 300 win mag with a skinny pencil barrel, and I have been thinking about starting a 300 PRC build. Should I rebarrel the Winchester to 300PRC or would I be better off starting with an aftermarket action?

Considering you already have a suitable action I'd have that one trued and rebarreled. Now if you didn’t already have an action I’d go the route of a custom.

There is potential in the M70. The action may need the lugs lapped and some trigger work etc. but it's got potential.

Love the M70. Only problem is stocks and there are no chassis around for l/a. There’s a few M70 threads around if you want some ideas.

What is the coal for your dbm?

I’d send it to LRI and let him work his magic. PCR also made a nice M70 in 6.5 SAUM for me a few years ago.

Depends on what you want to do. As mentioned there are no chassis systems available for it. That said you can get McMillan or Manners stocks. I have two FN SPR action in Manners stocks and they are awesome shooters (shout out to Mgordon @SAC who built them). If you want stocks I say rock on with your bad self. If you want a chassis system I would start there first and see what custom actions they make them for, R700 clones are really common.
