steel case?

Re: steel case?

I've loaded a couple steel .45 acp cases three times now with no obvious problems...yet. In the interests of cheapness, er, I mean research of course. (8 grains of Blue dot, 230 grain Zero FMJ, WLP) three times (once when still a Wolf!) fired and reloaded and ready to go again.

Maybe I'll come to regret it this next time.

Re: steel case?

Steel cases are actually more like iron cases, and are maleable, making them suitible for ammunition purposes.

Unfortunately propellent combustion tends to initiate internal corrosion which can compromise their integrity for subsequent reloadings.

Boxer and Berdan priming can both be reloaded, but Berdan requires special techniques and equipment, as well as hard to find components, and just isn't practical for large volumes.

My Eldest Brother once tried an experiment modifying Berdan pockets in a drill press to accept Boxer priming. Doable, but not practical.
