Ever see an airgun slug with a 0.428 G1 / 0.219 G7 BC?..
Well now you have! And they shoot lights out from my stock AirForce Texan LSS .457 with the 30" twist bore and TX2 valve
I've had the LSS for about a year now. I took a hefty 8pt whitetail deer with it last hunting season shooting the (cast) 333gn Mr. Hollowpoint slugs tuned for 880FPS (3 unregulated shots per fill).
The 333's hit hard and give me a max ethical shot range on large game to about 65y, but I've been wanting to find some swaged ammo to tighten up my groups, which have been a problem with all of the cast and swaged ammo that I've tested out.
My buddy Chad at LethalAir down in VA makes some incredible ammo for various calibers, and I recently got a hold of a couple different types to test out in my .45. The two that I was drawn to most are the 290gn HP RBT and the 365gn steel tipped RBT:
The G1 on the 290's is about 0.33 from my bore at 963FPS, but I'm planning to drop in a heavier hammer spring and 4500PSI bottle to tune it further for both slugs to see if I can tune it for higher velocity shots. I'd like to extend the max ethical shot range to at least 100y, but it really comes down to being able to consistently place a shot in that "golden triangle".
This was 53y with my 1-8 NX8 .. had my SideShot attached shooting prone, so it was a little wonky bending my neck back to shoot:
The 290gn hit like a freight train, so I might use these to take one of the big does that I've been eyeballing in the herd roaming around my backyard.
At any rate, LethalAir makes some serious ammo in various calibers. I can definitely say that both the 365 and 290 RBTs unlocked the precision in my LSS!!!
