Re: Steyr AUG A3
I bought one back in the day, right after George H. imposed the ban on importing foreign-made weapons. GSI had a shipment already on the way when the ban went in, & after a long fight with ATF & Customs, the rifles were allowed in on the condition that they could only be sold to law enforcement agencis or officers. Since I'm a lefty, I also bought the optional left-hand
bolt.
I've used mine quite a bit, & have had no problems with it. It's very accurate, very compact & completely reliable. The only issue I've ever seen with it is the price of spare magazines. During the AWB years, the mags were very scarce on the open market, but I was able to get a good supply of the Law Enforcement/Military marked mags. Probably because there wasn't much demand for them at that time.
You won't find the huge number of aftermarket accessories for them that are out there for ARs. All I added to mine was a good
sling and a SureFire light, so that wasn't a problem.
It's very easy to control in rapid fire, & with the optic it's very fsst, at least in good light.
