I am looking to buying either a Steyr SSG 04 or Steyr SSG 04 A1 in 300 WM. Is this either a discontinued or to be discontinued model?

Which one would you get?

Will it be a big deal if i got the A1 model with its full length rail and mount the 50mm or 56mm objective a little higher to the bore line?

I have an SSG04, if you do not need Night Vision, then go with 04. As long as you can find it online, you can buy it. Steyr will support you and take care of any issue. So far so good and I have no issues. It is a great value for a Factory Rifle that does 0.6MOA (factory certified) or better.

Ssg04 is whatever on line only. You can get great deal on them. A1 is suppose to have stiffer front which help loading on bipod. A1 is still in production and being imported according to Jeff at steyr. I have my 04 and I have no problem loading my bipod. Mine usually get 1/2-3/4 moa on factory match ammo. I am pretty happy with my ssg04. I got mine at buds and it come w break and Harris bipod standard. Can't beat that deal.

I thought the SSG 04 A1 had a less flimsy stock which was the reason I would pick it over the 04. There is also the supposed benefit of a lower mounting of the optics with the 04. Just how critical is a lower scope mounting position?
I actually changed my mind and will get the .308 as I have a TRG in 338 Lapua and 300WM.
Now I have the added choice of the Steyr SSG 69 PII.
Who would pick the 69 PII over the SSG 04?
