I went to Austria last year for a pleasure trip in 2024 so I felt obligated to finally buy a Steyr. I aways wanted one, specifically a SSG, but...Today, I picked up one after buying it on Gunbroker, new and hundreds less than retail. It's olive with the ventilated stock. The barrel is medium-heavy with 0.8" muzzle diameter. Trigger pull is under 3 pounds. By feel, there is no creep/slack and breaks clean at what "feels" less than what my tool reads. Interestingly, Steyr recommends first cleaning after 40 rounds. Traditionally, I do the 1, clean, 2 clean, etc. so whether I do 40 remains to be seen. It joins the other range rifles but this one gives me a hunting rig option. Glass decision will made this weekend...Kahles or S&B to keep the Euro theme. Range report to follow (compare with CZ 600 range).

I’m thinking I will top it with S&B 3-18x42 Meta. I haven't hunted in forever so that may be a pipe dream but this is a small rifle. A large precision dedicated scope would look foolish. The stock is where Steyr cut costs, big time. I’m a little concerned that the size and weight and .308 will be, um, noticeable. I refuse to use a brake due to my hearing and my Banish-30 will help somewhat. The stock fore end can conceivably be filled with shot and epoxy but don’t want to get ahead of myself. Sometimes you just gotta take the punishment lol.
