Well....

Still looking to get a $2000 rifle for $1500. This may not be possible, but I'm trying.

- I can get a LMT CQB MRP with FDE furniture for $1900 - not the original $1550 that I was quoted

- Henderson Defense had a SIG 556 with a magpul UBR on their website. Their facebook page said that it could be made up for $1495, and their was a end of summer sale for $150 off. Found out that neither of these is true. Sent an email to the owner that he may want to update their pages. Boo.

- I can get the rock river elite operator 2 that is on sale for $1000 and have it converted to piston function, but I have not heard of a conversion kit available that is as good as a factory install - Is there one ??

- I like the looks of the POF material, but seems like this is going to be $2K for a carbine. Anyone from POF that has some info ?

- LWRC seems to be the same - $2K or no dice.

Gentlemen,

Do I throw in the towel?

Do I raise the white flag?

Do I sell what I can on Craigslist to come up with the extra $500 that I can't seem to pry out of my wallet ?

Should I press on in the quest for a bargain, or admit defeat?

Can anyone advise a troubled soul....

I boutgh a POF piston upper for $1300 used but unfired. You could get cheap lower for $200 and upgrade it later. Unfortunately haven't been able to shoot it yet so I can't give you a personal review.

I would stay away from the Sig 556 though as I don't hear much good about them. Just read an article in American Rifleman about Sigs new piston upper for the AR platform.

Isn't Sig's 516 around $1500 ? I don't have any experience with them but if it's a Sig I'm sure it's GTG.

Can you live with a used rifle or do you want a new one ?

Hold out for an LWRC, you will not regret it. There are actually a couple in the for sale forum here. You can also find a few deals in the marketplace forum on the LWRC website.

Re: still trying to find a good piston 223 - advice ??

New LWRC M6A1 upper was on sale direct from factory for $1195. Spikes lower $225. I made one for a friend and it's a great piston AR15/M4 style rifle. LWRC is not the only great piston, but it's what I picked. Research what you really want, and then be patient. Once you know what you want, a patient search for best prices and flexibility will save you a lot of $$. Factories run sales, and used guns from motivated sellers nets great savings. In the end, you'll be much happier if you get what you want. Good luck.

Re: still trying to find a good piston 223 - advice ??

Don,t know if you meant 516 instead of 556, but you can probably get close price wise to what you want if you go for the 556 since CDNN has a deal on any style plus a 522 for $1700. Get rid of the 22 for $400 and you're in a piston gun for $1300. They are out of DMRs however, but all other styles including pistols are available.

Re: still trying to find a good piston 223 - advice ??

Their are a couple on Gunbroker one starting at $1650 with a buy it now price of $1675. If you can swing the extra $175 it is definitely worth it. Otherwise, keep watching GB you may find one closer to your price.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. SIG has had a lot of problems with their rifles 556's & initial 522's) and this is a new release. I think the jury is still out on the 516. I'd wait until there is some feedback from users.
