Stock for a girl??? Thumbhole or not?

On Stockeysstocks.com, they have the Bobby Hart LRT stock in cobalt blue or the LRS thumbhole stock in cobalt blue for a rem 700.

Which do you think would better suit the needs of a female? She's about 5'7ish and can handle my varmint rifles. Im just concerned about the thumbhole being to far from the trigger for her hands. Does anyone have experience with either? Im building this for my sis for her birthday. She loves groundhog hunting and loves the color blue.

My wife shoots my AICS 2.0 perfectly. She is also about 5'7", petit. This is her first group ever with a rifle. Dont count the whole in the middle I did that with a brass I wanted her to hit but it fell.

My wife doesn't have a problem with the AI, but prefers her XLR Evolution.

I feel that a Chassis is a better choice for a tactical style rifle on a smaller framed woman. The adjustments really allow you to dial it in for her, whereas most traditional stocks are sized for men.

I have the Bobby Hart LRT. It is very comfortable from the seated or prone position. I would be more concerned with the angle off the vertical grip. The LRT grip is close to 90 degree, and very comfortable. The palm swell is very big, but I rest my thumb on the right side of the grip. Gives "me" better trigger control. Then again I never liked the thumbhole lammies. Just me.

Here is my Rem 700 SPS-V in a LRT, you can see how big the palm swell is. I can keep my hand in a more natural position.

I'm a 5'4" female and can tell I LOVE thumbhole stocks - I prefer the AW (esp. 2stage trigger). The big negative - weight on run & guns (22# with S&B scope and loaded mag, oh and the cupholder).. This weight honestly wasn't an issue until I had lower back issues & multiple surgeries. If your looking for her to join you in comps, I would definitely give her the opportunity to shoot the AW/AE. Even with the brake and not can, the recoil was pretty low and I could always see my hits. Thumbhole not an issue and of the women I know that shoot - at least 4 run AI's.

I had a custom GAP with one of the first Manners (indestructible) prototype stock - never "grew" to appreciate it. (<100 rounds through the tube) but it is several lbs. lighter than the AWs. That being said I also got more rifle hop and I would lose my cheek weld even with the can on (FYI it is a sub .25 MOA shooter. Tom has been more than helpful and offered to fill the stock to add some weight to my butt, I just never got around to sending it back to him). Might be parting with that one soon. I shot the LTR too and it has it's benefit (weight) too.

i like that lrt i have a remington 700 xr100 that i should replace the thumbhole stock on with an lrt.

I have learned through the years there are a few thing you do not pick out for a woman with out her input. Guns are one of those. I have done exactly what you are doing and the rife ended up sitting in a safe. I fully understand what you are trying to do but 9 times out of 10 it usually doesn't work out like we would want it to. JMo

This in my doughters who is now 11. It is made by McMillan but a Holland design - it has an adjustable LOP so I could shorten it to fit her and can ad spacers as she gets older. She really likes the thumbhole. It fits her smaller hands well. Hope it helps.

Shes my sis. I discussed the topic many times with her and she likes my savage thumbhole stock and I know she LOVES the color blue. So im basing this off of facts. I def know what you mean though. I spent a ton of time and money trying to set up a decent 10/22 for the ole lady and she didnt even pick it up to check it out after I gave it to her. Im desperately trying to get her into shooting. Even bought her the pink Volquartsen stock. We'll see for sure this spring if she's going to take it up. I have no fears when it comes to my sis though. She could probably out shoot me.

She does,
Runs the plates to 400 yards on her own dialing and everything. We have some 4 inch plates at 340 she beat the daylights out of. It's a lot of fun watching her shoot, wouldn't trade it for the world.
