I'm rethinking my current 308 setup and need to do some serious lightening for hunting. I've been looking at several of the light hunting stocks, but had a question for you. How come even the stocks marketed as lightweight hunting stocks are still relatively "long". As far as I look at it the stock only needs to be long enough for gripping and a bipod. Cutting it back a few inches would save some weight as well as shift the CG rearward (beneficial on "light" setups). Am I overthinking this?
