I've searched because I can't believe this hasn't been asked before, but I'm not finding anything. I'm interested in the pros/cons of paint vs dip on a stock. I've looked at the multicam Shortbus does and I don't know why but it just looks better to me. The downside is it's around double the price of what I'm seeing to have a stock dipped. So the question is, if you were going to have a stock finished in multicam, would you go for Shortbus paint or hydro dip?

Paint. You could also dip and cerakote it clear for increased protection. The dips just don’t last as long as paint. I’d probably krylon it before either and not worry about it personally.

Hydrodipping by itself does not offer great protection. I've got a couple of F-class rifles hydrodipped, love the choice of patterns out there but these rifles are babied - carried from the boot of the car to the mound and back again, so no issues with scratching them up. If you intend to use your rifle hard, get it cerakoted, otherwise you'll be repainting more often than not.

Thinking of having a Tavor [polymer] stock hydrodipped. I have spoke to a reputable company about cerakoting the stock, then hydrodip, then two coats of clear cerakote. Do you think that this finish would be durable in this application?
