Gunsmithing Stock Texturing

I have seen a couple of people use bedding material to do it. But is ther anyway to paint over it? I am not looking for a agressive finish like what Tac Ops does on their stocks, just something that will give a little more texture then that of what's on my Manners. Sort of whats like on the McMillan stocks.

I use Acra Glass Gel and you can make the texture as subtle or as aggressive as you want. There's no problem painting over it.

I've used Brownells Steel-Bed and Devcon and both work great. Both take paint very well.

will this work on a wood stock?Also if I wanted to make tha fore end wider should I glue on pieces of wood and fill the gaps

I suggest checking out R&D Precision website. Randy has a DIY on bedding and stock texturing. Works well looks really good. Randy did my MCM a5 223 build. I'm really pleased with the whole thing.

I use low viscosity epoxy resin and fill with various fillers to achieve durability and adjust texture. One can add glass, carbon, cotton, nylon etc short fibers and fillers such as talcum, micro baloons... even baby powder (smells nice when sanding).
Howa stock.

My hunting rifle. Stippeling also in Carbon.
