stock vs chassis

Right know my 10/22 sits in a Magpul x22 stock and shoots really tight groups at 50 yards, .25 to .50 all day long under the right conditions and I do my part, but my groups at 100 are in the 1.25 to 2 inches most times so my question is would upgrading the stock to the Oryx chassis improve my odds of tighter groups at 100 and beyond with everything else staying the same. The Oryx i can pick up for 400 bucks and just wondering if it worth the upgrade.

I'm no expert, but I would say that unless there is something wrong with the way the barreled action fits the stock, switching to a chassis won't make a difference. It's more likely that upgrading the ammo will would make a difference.

I think it’s more ammo than anything my t1x does the same thing until you find the right flavor of ammo to feed it.

I LOVE 10/22s and own several, some quite high end, but that's about par for the course. It's unlikely that a better stock is going to change much. Depending on what trigger you have in it now, you would probably be better served spending your money there to tighten up your groups a bit. Volquartsen TG2000s can be had for 179 (or could - I don't keep up with pandemic pricing) or a Kidd 2-stage if you want to buy once, cry once.

My best shooting 10/22 at 100 yards has a TG2000 and a Kidd bolt/barrel. It'll do about 1moa at 100 with SK Rifle Match ammo, with some groups slightly better or worse depending on the day.

A top end barrel (and maybe a bolt if you're having problems with consistency or first round fliers) and trigger are going to do more for you than a new stock, more likely than not.

cci sv for alot of my shooting but when i want to really tighten things up at 50 its center x and both at 100 with about the same group size, guess we will keep trying different ammo at 100 till i find what it likes, just got some eley match, tennex and tennex biathlon.

it does not like sk rifle match at 50 but have not tried it out to 100, but i will.

Yeah if that's your rig it might be worth futzing with barrel harmonics/etc then to see what you can do. Even just tightening the action screw in 5lb increments can yield wildly different results on some setups. A lot of people go between 12 and 20 in. lbs. if memory serves (I believe mine are 20, generally). I haven't messed with a pressure pad on the barrel anywhere, but some people have also reported wicked results with that. Might be that a little electrical tape is all you need.

Chasing groups with a 10/22 is damn expensive. Fun, but expensive.

Shooting with a rear bag? I have a Protektor and enjoy it a lot. It is rock solid.

Swiffiest, I agree it is fun, and yes i have played with the action screw and 22 in.lbs seems the best for me and i have built up the pressure pad with tape. Just going to keep chasing smaller groups trying different ammo because it is fun lol.

Is your 10/22 stock? does it have a match barrel on it? I normal steps for a 10-22, Barrel, then trigger. I played a round with a few 10-22, barrels, and triggers and stocks. I had a Midway barrel, Kidd 2 stage trigger and a Titan stock. I finely went with a Kidd Supergrade barreled action, moved the Kidd trigger and the Titan with Titan's rear anchor. Best set up for a 10-22 IMO. Before you go down the 10-22 rabbit hole, check what a Kidd build would cost. I have been there and done it. Kidd also makes a chassis. IMO a chassis will not help unless the is a problem with your stock.
