So going to a local gun show tomorrow and sure there will be tons of ammo dealers. Figured I would look online, get a list from the most popular sites on the brands of ammo, grain, price, etc., and compare tomorrow.

Now, just for go to the range, target shooting, and just dont care to blast away with ammo, what do you prefer?

I am looking at something at 300-600 ranges, dont care about medium size groups with and doesnt break the bank.

Well when I am really going for groups I use Amax reloads.

But if I shoot 3'' groups at long distances with "crap" ammo just to hear the steel ding, its just for fun... Not practicing for a competition, wont be entering one any time soon.

Wont be attempting to pull off any "Top Shot" challenges either, unless they like my video

Ammo choice can be a religous issue. I have used Prvi Partizan Match (HPBT 168gr) with good results out to your ranges. You can spend more for tighter groups but if you just need some economical factory ammo that shoots well for some fun at the range Prvi is not bad. I got my last boxes from Palmetto State Armory (a site supporter).

Widener's Reloading has some good prices on 308, the German made DAG, SMA308DAG 200rnd Green Battle pack German DAG .308 FMJ NATO (7.62x51) $86.00 This stuff shoots very well-Germans make good stuff.
They also carry the Prvi Match and 150gr 308-$12.95/box.
But instead of "stocking up" on loaded ammo, start reloading, better ammo, lower cost.

I hate to see people spend more than they need to! </div></div>

That just brought me to tears. Just ordered that from midwayusa

They're good people, but their prices on ammo suck. If its that big a deal, call them back and tell them to cancel the order. You won't go wrong with Palmetto. I've ordered from them quite a bit.

Re: Stocking up .308, you opinions?

I used Brown Bear FMJ or Privi FMJBT for just plinking, handloads for everything else, of course. Barnaul and Privi shoot pretty damn good considering the cost, shooting tighter than DAG in my semi.

When checking dope or getting ready before a comp I use my good handloaded stuff. For anything else ... Privi and Bear is plenty good.

sorry to hear that brother. I always research anything that is going to cost me some good $$. Here are a few sites that offer that ammo at a way cheaper price:

http://www.midwesthuntersoutlet.com/item.aspx?PID=3110&w=PQ+JDyOLrQE=

http://www.glensoutdoors.com/Federal-Premium-Gold-Medal-308-Win-168-BTHP-p/gm308m.htm

http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/product_info.php/pName/200rds-308-federal-gold-medal-168gr-match-ammo

Right now, palmetto is offering the 175 gr. for $19.95 a box. that is pretty cheap.

For the OP: PRVI PARTIZAN 175gr MATCH AMMUNITION can be had for $369-500 rds shipped to your door. if you want to go real cheap, you can get wolf 150 gr. for $200 - 500 rds.

Re: Stocking up .308, you opinions?

FGMM at 20$ a box if you're not reloading. If you're reloading then roughly 10$ a box for reloads. I'd use the same loads (to get bulk pricing) and just be a little less anal about them.
