Strelok Pro error?

Hi guys,

I purchased Strelok Pro and have been getting some really weird results. I’ve trued the gun (6.5 CM Tikka, 140gr ELDM) using BallisticsARC out to 755 (5.8 MRADS) and it has been very accurate from 400-800 yards. The recommended trued MV was 2603 FPS but the same inputs in Strelok yield 2735 FPS which is higher than the advertised box FPS of 2710. I know this is impossible as the Tikkas shoot much slower than the average advertised FPS. Most importantly, this MV doesn’t match my verified data whatsoever. I would love a refund but want to make sure it’s not user error first. I’m using Hornady 140gr ELD match with a G7 BC of 0.326, Bullet length of 1.374”, and a bullet diameter of 0.264”. This has all been inputted into Strelok and checked multiple times, yet I’m still getting the same issues.

Do you have any thoughts?

Unfortunately, Apps chew up MV

Any real adjustments have to be made with MV so that means your MV is no longer a statement of fact, just a fact of use.

Every App has its own flourishes on how they translate the data, so consistency from one to the other can only be measured in output, not inputs. Each app reads things in a slightly different way.

The easy answer, just ignore the MV Input beyond using it to line up the basic curve, what it reads is irrelevant in the big picture. In fact we stopped chronographing rifles in class and just use drop because we know the software will change it anyway so why waste the time gathering it when we can just insert a fake number and adjust it until the curve lines up. Time and problem solved

The whole truing thing works much better when you use G1. Also keep in mind you are a full 100fps slower (allegedly since you don’t have a chrono) than the factory MV of 2710 so your BC is off as well.

Tweak the BC until your 755 drop Matches your real world in strelok. Remember you are tuning the calculator to match real world results. After that you may need to tweak MV to smooth out the curve, but not by much. And like @lowlight said, the number doesn’t matter.

Thanks for your reply Frank. I ended up basing my MV on my 574 yard data and adjusting my BC to match my 803 yard data (had to decrease from 0.326 to 0.322). Now my trajectory is matching up @ 805, 755, 621, 421, and 317 yards. Strelok is still waaayy out to lunch. Do you think adjusting BC @ 803 and MV @ 574 is sufficient for an accurate trajectory validation? Or do I need to push out to 1000 before messing with BC?

Secondly, if this barrel is shooting @ 2610 FPS, what kind of barrel life should I expect out of it? Quite a bit more than the average 6.5 barrel?

P.S despite the barrel shooting slow, this Tikka in the MDT ESS is shooting under a half minute with Hornady match if I make sure my fundamentals are in check. I’m not even an experienced shooter and I can’t get over it. I know friends who have spent thousands more and can’t get theirs to shoot like this.

I may be incorrect, but i would venture to say that you could possibly have something inputted wrong into Strelok Pro. I have literally every ballistic solver on the market and i always seem to stay with or go back to Strelok Pro. I have found it to have the best user interface and more importantly, i have to lie to Strelok the least of all my solvers. Very little if any MV tweaking out to 600, and a little here or there on BC at 1k. I would go to Geo, and hand write all your inputs that you have there, then go to strelok and transcribe. One time, my shit was WAY off. Took me 30 min to realize, i didnt have a "." between the 1 and 8 on my sight height. Basically it was thinking my scope with 18" from my bore. Fixed it, and bam, done. You have have something funky going on, but its possible to have something like that too.

I ran your numbers in Strelok Pro, AB, Trasol, and Ballistic Arc.

They ALL give 5.9 mils for 755 yds. ( 2000 ft elev., 2600 fps, .326 G7)

You have an input error somewhere. If I switch units to meters on the home page I get very close speed to the error you are reporting (2762 fps)

Thank you, yes I found the input error. Forgot to adjust scope mount height and accidentally forgot a zero on the end of my zero range (10 yds instead of 100).
