I also posted this in the bolt action forums.

I recently installed a sako brake on my trg 22. I was surprised when it shot 6" low at 100 yards. I expected it to change my poi, but not to that degree. Is it fair for me to assume the brake reduced the velocity? I don't have a chrono to test. I wouldnt be so concerned, but i have a 20" barrel. With the brake installed, i'm needing 6mils of elevation to hit the target at 700 yards. Last time I shot, the shooter next to me let me use the chrono and I was getting about 2490 fps with the brake installed. If the brake is reducing my velocity significantly (100fps or more) , I'll remove it...

Nothing is going to reduce muzzle velocity enough to change the POI by 6" at 100 yds. If you doubt it, play around with numbers in any exterior ballistics calculator.

Whether it is caused by the break or not, your most likely culprit is that you were either resting the rifle differently or there is something different in the way you and the rifle intereact during recoil that is causing it.

Your load without the brake may be at the edge of an OCW/OBT and the added weight (reflection distance actually) of the brake can change the loading your rifle wants to shoot best.

That is, the brake moved what you rifle wants in terms of its pressure curve versus the barrel harmonics.

Most important. How is it grouping? That is all that matters. 6 inches is only a number you adjust for on your scope. Now if your group opened up to 6 inches that is another thing entirely.
