Rifle Scopes Suggest a 34mm scope mount for an AR flattop

I'm looking for the best mount, ideally a QD, to mount an S&B 4-16x PMII on an SPR clone. Obviously the Larue mounts come to mind, but do they make a 34mm mount that will work? Are there any other brands out there that would also be suitable? I don't think two piece rings would work, as they would not allow the scope to be mounted far enough forward for a proper cheek weld.

The Desert Tactical Arms mounts have moa built in and are for flat tops. As does the LaRue 50bmg mount. There's the Spuhr mounts as well.

How often do you plan on QDing it, the Spuhr mount only takes a few seconds to remove with the right tool and is very nicely made.

The Badger 22 MOA rail and 1.2"-1.4" height 34mm rings work well. The rail will mount on the upper and hang over a little if you don't have a rail on the forend. Seekins is also making 1.4" 34mm rings now as well.

Those are 1" height rings in the picture with a 56mm objective scope but the POF has another rail ontop of the upper rail so it's a little higher.

I'm using the larue lt 104 with 34mm rings for mine with a 50mm obj for the scope - clearance is fine. I don't use flip up sights though - so not sure if they will fit under it.

As an AR10 have very much longer action than the AR15 its not definitely necesarry to use cantilever mounts.
If possible use a straigth mount instead for both saved weight and added stability.
We are selling this mount to a number of European SF and anitterrorist units and lots are using it on HK417 as you can see it here.

As many rails really NOT are that straight we have removed quite a bit of the contact area to enhance the repetability. Same thing if there should be a chip or something standing up on the rail, there is a higher chanse for repetatbility if the contact area is low.

Something else to consider is a secondary optic.
For a long range use I really like to have the seconday optic half past two.
But for a true short range gun i like to put it 3 o'clock like on this cantilever mount.
Schmidt & Bender is a bit special there, long tubes with very little actual maintube diameter makes the mounting of secondady optics and other assesories difficult, that was the orignal reason why I chosed to put the interfaces on the rings, as there really often not is any real good choise when you want an assesory there.
Badger and a number of other manufacturers also offers the possibilits of secondary sights, and lasers and stuff.

Just a question for the experienced--why use a special mount?
why not just use rings? I have seen both setups--what is the drawback to the rings-only setup?

Nothing wrong with rings only if you have enough rail to use them and your scope has the needed elevation to get you as far as you need. I only use the Badger 22 MOA base to give me more elevation.

We just got the 30 and 34mm 1.45" tall rings in stock. They are called AR height

Here are two that I use:

* KAC (I don't remember if this is canted or not)
* AI (various cants available)

For a 30mm tube, I really like the NightForce 1.375" Unimount with 20MOA cant.

223 AR you pretty much have to use an extended mount to get proper eye relief. 308 you can get away with reg rings.
