I got an very nice Anschutz with exhibition grade wood and wanted to bed the action.

So is there a gunsmith who can take good care and not mar the finish, yet do a great bedding job on this you can recommend?

I ask this because although some smiths specialize in tactical, precision rifles, that can get tossed around and wear scratches and dings and marks like a badge of honor, I don't want any marks on this thing.

After doing much research, I have found that Devcon steel putty is the best material to bed. Acra Glass and Marine Tex both have shrinkage, though miniscule and Acra Glass softens on contact with areas that have cleaner contact.

Just because a rifle may take some abuse during its intended use--does not mean that that abuse should start at the smith. ANY competent smith can bed ANY type of rifle into ANY type stock. And do so without screwing up the finish

ERDept,
I would contact Randy for sure to bed the rifle. He built a rifle for me. I'm very pleased with the work. I'd call him and see what he can do for you.

Of course you're right, but you know how certain places specialize in this or that, so to GA Precision does mostly a certain type of work.

And benchrest smiths do a certain type of rifle.

And using your logic, a place that work on Fiat's though they are mechanics and can work on any type of car, so I must be able to bring my Toyota there.

See what I mean.

I'm just looking for a smith that does fine hunting rifles.

I bought my Tacticooool AI from Randy and my Surgeon from Surgeon. That's where I take these rifes to get done. Not the Weatherby, Blaser, Cooper, Anschutz dealer.

But, I get my shotguns for sporting clays from Pacific Sporting arms, there they fit you and have Krieghoffs, Merkels, Benelli's, etc. Google it, you'll see what I mean.

I go to a specialist that see's a certain type of gun, cause that's what they always deal with. This is MY logic.

Try one of the Safari forums. There's alot of high end rifles built on Dakota, Winchester, and Mauser actions that are put into wood stocks. Surely there will be someone there who knows of a Smith that can do it.

Just a thought,
