I am interested in taking one of my older .308 Bolt guns, a 70's era Mod 70, and building it into a sort of Light tactical M40. I was wondering if anyone has done something similar. Here is what I want to do.

-Action Trued ( if needed), a 20" Medium contour Bartlien/Krieger/Rock (Maybe rem Varmit, Maybe Heavy Sporter finished at .670? Would that be to thin? , light enough I can take it hunting, but heavy enough to be able to shoot some strings from the bench/field) with a threaded barrel
-M40 style stock. Something like HTG. Would Prefer NOT to spend $600 on a simple stock. I love the old m40 takeoff stock style and feel.
-Metal bottom metal, Internal mag.. Maybe use a CDI AICS bottom metal so I can use my mags?
-Still can't decide weather to stick with .308 or do .260. I have multiple guns in each caliber but leaning a bit towards the 260

Anyone have suggestions for a smith with reasonable prices and doesn't have a crazy backlog?

Thanks.

If you want to go original style wood stock, talk to Joel Russo, he can do m40 style stocks in win model 70 inletting, I just asked him about a m40 style stock last week. =)

As far as the bottom metal, Jeff at CDI does great inletting for that. He did mine when joel built my McMillan A3 style stock for me.

Thanks Square. I am leaning towards a Manners MCS-T. Fully built out the way I want it, inletted for CDI and Win 70 comes out to around $475.

Does anyone know if the 90% carbon fiber fill is the lightest one?
