Looking for suggestions for an indicator stand. Possibly with granite base, but open on that.
With a fairly tall post and indicator holder.
Things like the Sinclair concentricity tool are too short for some things.
Thanks
You didn't narrow your budget range or stand size down, so it is easy to get suggestions all the way out to the moon...
That link with the Starret 657 magnetic indicator stand is a staple in most tool boxes, but depending on the surface you are running on you may want a different style with a big heavy base to slide around on granite for example. A stand like the 657 is a very common tool and pretty universal. Stands with larger diameter rods (659) like this also exist.
A simple stand with a heavy base and rod to support a boom and gage is another way to go if you already have a small granite or plate. Something like a Starret 3259 or 3250 for example.
From there, the stands that look like a vertical track with a heavy base and may have either electronic or mechanical readouts on the vertical dimension, plus they can still attach a gage or boom with a gage. It may be overkill for reloading tasks. These are very useful for inspection with a granite plate and come in a variety of sizes (and costs). That Starret 3754 is an example.
Most times in labs and inspection shops, you will have something like a small comparator stand in cast iron and one in granite, just depending on the need for magnetic mounting.
There are used and cheaper options floating around all the time. So maybe use the Starret web site as a study and then decide which type to go after. You may even find cheaper options on the Sinclair web site.
ETA: I forgot to mention the Larry Willis stand/gage. I don't have one, but some friends do and it was inexpensive.
