Rifle Scopes sun shade???

I shoot a lot in the afternoons and dusk. Find my shade helps keep out some of the blinding South Texas sun and reflection.

No real con for me. As long as it's not hanging over the muzzle a couple extra inches on the scope doesn't bother me. I leave one on my S&B 5-25 to help keep out glare as well as it protects the objective glass a little having it set back from anything that might hit it or get on it.

Obviously it helps with the glare. I personally don't see any real cons. If you're so obsessed with keeping weight down that a few ounces will bother, that's one thing. I personally have never taken the sunshades off of my scopes that have them.

Not at all, think about every time you use the sun shade in your car. You cant focus on anything when your eyes are bombarded with light.
I use mine most when varmint hunting and shooting West. Also since both of my scopes are 40mm objective, the same shade fits both the Nikon and the Weaver.

In addition, if you are finding that your objective is letting in too much light (perhaps you have a 56mm objective and it's a very sunny day) you can go the ARD (Anti-Reflection Device) route. Several scopes have custom-made ones (such as SWFA), but you can also get inserts that fit inside the Butler Creek caps. LibertyOptics.com sells these inserts (about $10 each IIRC). I've never used the cap inserts, but the custom-threaded ones that I have used work great.

I don't see how it could.. If you look through a toilet paper tube will you still see a mirage on a road on a hot day? YUP.
Only fixes I know of for mirage factor is use a thermal insulator for your can if you are using one and ZOOM OUT.
