I mentioned to the wife I wanted to go shooting yesterday and she told me that I should work around the house. So I worked around the house putting this together. The Gong is 28" across should work out pretty well I hope.

Re: Sundays project

Time well spent ! Looks alot like my set up and should work good for you . I have one that I've been using now for about 4yrs and the wood is chewed up pretty bad but is still very solid. Just be careful when moving it around as you will have copper fragments everywhere on the inside of the legs.

Re: Sundays project

Is that her on the left sitting in the chair? Tell her she wasnt looking to productive so you made a Target....

If you hit that frame a couple times it might come apart! Ive hit my metal stand a couple times with my 300WM and its starting to bend under the weight of the steel hanging plates.

Re: Sundays project

What kind of steel do you need to use to ensure the steel doesn't get too chewed up. I made two while in college to practice 200 and 300 highpower with my .223 shooting 77gr sierra's. 200 yard tgt was almost unusable after a few strings while the 300 yard target barely showed ANY marks at all. I was amazed to think the bullets lost that much energy from 200 to 300 yards, but the targets where from the same steel. Just wondering if there's a magic steel to use.

Re: Sundays project

Nice gong set up. Like others have mentioned before, watch out for the splints and fragments. Reassured that there will be plenty of them.

Yeah I tend to do stuff to make her mad all the time. If any of you guys out there have got women figured out I would be willing to buy that book. I know at 400yds a 308 will make small pock marks in this steel but at 600yds it is a clean splatter just knocking off the paint.
