If you want a very fast, very short, pretty light, smooth one stage trigger, that 3GSD is hard to beat. I have one in an M4 and I love it. It does in fact feel like a bit of constant tension, slight move back, then SNAP! It fires. The proverbial glass rod here, or awful close to it. Note I said one stage, that is important because it IS a two stage trigger. It just feels like a one stage because the second stage doesn't add any weight to the pull, that is just where it breaks at. Only trigger like this that I know of, and that is likely what makes it so fast.
Where it really shines is in speed. That guy may have been able to squeeze 'em off just as fast, but I can't. The Geissele trigger is just shorter, plain and simple. I think overall, that video was more of an exception to the rule; what you will most likely experience will be what I and others have, that it is faster. I have a well worked GI AR trigger too, in a Beowulf, right at 4lbs? 4.5lbs. at most? No way it comes close to the Geissele, no way.
Seated supported from a range bench, I can ring a 12" plate at 200m pretty damn fast with the 3GSD. "Dingdingdingding...!" I think they advertise this trigger at Rainier Arms as being able to get off something like 14 rounds in like 1.2 or 1.3 seconds? I saw a sign on the wall in there. This was a champion 3G shooter though. Interestingly, if it WERE that fast for everyone, it would be classified as a machinegun in WA state!
Wilson also makes a really nice 3G trigger, but it costs more. It also has a more distinct second stage, but it is still a very fast, very short trigger.
I have a RR 2 stage, and once it was worked a VERY TINY bit, it became a phenomenal two stage. Almost on par with Geissele's two stage triggers when used with those KDS trigger pins. It is pretty quick, but definitely two stages and great for precise shots. I have it in the .300BLK, it seems like it has been a good all around trigger and that is kind of an all around rifle.
I also have the Geissele Hi-Speed. This one is the greatest of all the AR triggers if you ask me. It is fully adjustable, including the spring weights that will essentially give you 3 different Geissele trigger options with the one trigger, like 3 in 1, from stock weight to super light. I use the DMR setup in a 20" Grendel AR. When properly tuned, it breaks better than any trigger I've ever used, even better than the 3GSD. Perfectly defined separate two stages, no mush at all. One weight until you hit the second stage, stop, an increase in weight but no real movement, then SNAP! Here, it most certainly IS the proverbial glass rod, no doubt about it. It costs more than their others, but I feel it is worth it. The lighter hammer also reduces lock time. I'm told the fastest lock times of all the AR triggers are this one and the AR Gold. Not sure which one of the two is faster, but I'm under the impression the Hi-Speed is by a slim margin.
I'd just be sure to get the trigger that fits the style of shooting I plan on doing. I also wouldn't use a 3GSD on a defense rifle unless you have damn fine trigger discipline, ie, no finger on the trigger or in the well, ever, until ready to actually pull. It could be quite easy to have an AD in a stressful situation if you had your finger resting on this trigger. It really is that light and short.
