Outrunning Motorola and a helo. Bikes are a nuisance in town.

Man, that seems overly aggressive and stupid on the pilot's part. They had him made at the store and he had no idea they were after him. All they had to do was keep an eye on him from a distance while they called in a cruiser as he's inside shopping, and be waiting at the bike when he comes out. Instead, they light him up with a laser and come down like they're going to land in the parking lot, tip him off, and off he goes. And for what? Because he got a little fast on a pretty empty stretch of road for all of about 5 or 6 seconds? Hovering/flying around low like that at night in an urban environment is pretty risky to both themselves and the public. It's one thing if they're chasing a mass shooter. It's quite another for a guy on a bike that they "think" broke the speed limit for a few seconds.

Have done some "evading" in the past.
Adrenaline rush is addictive.
Gave up the crotch rockets when my kids were little.
I was clocked by a plane above 160, the state police came in town looking for a red ninja.
I was lucky.
You usually only get one mistake.

BTDT. No thanks.

Yeah, let's talk about that. This isn't Montana by day; this is Philly at night. I have a distinct advantage over your opinion. I've been where that bike went, every inch of it, and I know the surrounding areas. I want that clown and his crotch rocket the fuck off the road.

A mile and a half away to the northwest from where the pilot tried to buffalo the idiot into submission lies Manayunk, a party 'hood full of inebriated twenty-somethings criss-crossing the streets until closing time. And uphill from there to the north/northeast are neighborhoods on the side of a hill that makes parts of San Francisco seem tame. Either way, a fatal disaster in the making.

Manayunk, special snowflake zone: tight, twisty streets, stuck between a steep hill and a canal/river that people drown in regularly.

As an FYI, the speed limit on Kelly Drive is 35, and there are sensors below the roadway designed to trip red lights off in front of speeders. He only made a pair of illegal lane changes, ran two red lights that I counted, did a maximum of 95 mph over the speed limit, and had no plate. Twice the limit in PA is considered racing on a public thoroughfare and carries automatic suspension.

The eventual end of the chase, as it were, under an overpass below N. 16th Street (near the right-most 676 icon), three blocks from the Municipal Services building and about three and a half from City Hall. That's what we call Center City, not where we want a psycho on two wheels. Note that his route included a spin in front of the steps at The Art Museum.

I get youthful exuberance, really, I do, but many of Philly's bikers just don't give a fuck about anything. And yes, the cops are aware of this guy, and yes, they will pursue under most circumstances.

it wouldnt be so bad if they just killed themselves and no one else was involved...
their noise, their speed, i dont like it at all...
many people here by the damn bikes because they dont need insurance here i florida...
idiot on the road and he cant cover his damages, they obviously dont care...

So what you're saying is be more like Steve in the country. ;)

The worst of it is with jack bikes and ATVs in North and Northeast Philly.

aaaaand they act all surprised when they get hit......

i love speed, i mean hell i had a 350 HP mini cooper, but keep it on the track...or at the very least an empty highway......when youre zipping through traffic and running lights, youre just an asshole.

Veer, you totally missed my point, or at least didn't respond to it. My point was, they HAD him at the store. All they had to do was lay low and put someone on scene while he was in the store. Go back and look at your pics there and imagine hovering a bird at night in that mess of wires (and probably towers, etc). Bust the rider, sure. But that pilot was irresponsible as well. He was making a show where none needed to be made.

ETA: I guess my point is that air assets are most effective when they remain undetected, right up until you have a need to unleash some firepower onboard at least. They accomplished that right up until the time they made a decision to reveal themselves, apparently trying to menace him (?), and then it backfired. He was completely unaware they were after him when he parked, and would have been arrested, completely off-guard and without a chase when he came out of the store. On top of that, stick a tail rotor in one of those trees or wires at night and you're going to lose the bird, the crew, and anyone below in those busy streets.

He may or may not have made it into the store, one, and two, there may not have been available units to send. Low-priority calls go forever and a day in the 39th. Do you really think that the pilot was gonna go skids-on-wires there? Had they felt a need to set down, there are ample spots along the Schuykill between Midvale and the Art Museum area to do so. The guy was over the top and the helicopter was keeping tabs in order to better direct the meat wagon when it was all over.

Event discussed ad nauseam: https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/com...apes_police_helicopter_after/#bottom-comments

I never said anything about them sitting down. No one I know who ever had a close call in an aircraft (self included) was expecting it (outside of combat). My point was that it happens in an instant, and only when the pilot thinks he's clear. See Davy Allison accident (although he actually was landing). Sitting down would be irrelevant to this situation and I didn't bring it up, but flying low/hovering near wires and towers is no different. I'll re-pose the question to you - what did they accomplish by doing that that they wouldn't have otherwise?

Nothing really epic about this video except the stupidity of the rider. And living outside of Philly, I can attest to this video being a slow pass on Kelly drive. This guy is not a seasoned rider at all. Not that I condone speeding down that road, but those that do it, do it well.

Obviously there were no cars in the area to immediately vector in. In that case all the bird had to do was hit him with the spot for 10 seconds, let him know they're up there and watching, then pull back and have a car in the area to monitor if/when possible. They're not getting anything from the air speeding ticket wise at night on a short stretch that would ever hold up in court if challenged, so why bother anything further? Give the air support to the cops actually in potentially sticky situations.

The real idiots wipe out on Lincoln Drive, anyway.

Pretty sure that lady in the car at the Sunoco was Asian. Thought she was going to knock his scooter over when parking.

How far is this all from Tinnicum Island? Bohem used to work there, I spent eight weeks going to Airbus school at the airport.

This whole thing was staged anyhow...no need to get our panties all bunched up. If these guys really want to ride something they need to come out west. Lots of wide open highways, not too many cops to nail you for speeding and plenty of windy twisty roads to challenge you. Problem is if you fuck up...it might be a couple years before they find you. A couple challenging routes I can think of are Hwy 12 Lolo pass...where you'll be a bug splat on a truck if you pass wrong and the Payette River run from Horseshoe Bend to Smith Flats...about 45 miles of cliff on one side, river on the other. Plus some pretty good elevation changes.

But, most of these kids just want to be seen...so going west wouldn't be their thing.
