Super SASS or REPR

I currently have an Armalite AR 10 Super SASS. I need advice as to whether to trade it in for a REPR. The reason why I like the REPR is the fact that it can be used as a single shot rifle and has multiple gas settings. I wish I can have both but my money does not stretch that wide. I also like the fact that the LWRC lower can take PMags and DPMS and Noveske uppers, I think. I also like the thought of having multiple LWRC uppers with the same features of the adjustable gas systems. Can the Armalite Lower take the LWRC REPR upper because that could be a possibility for me? Thanks.

ive been looking at the armalite for a while now and i would say keep it, the armalite sass is heavy duty and more than reliable

I'm almost positive LWRC lowers will not work on any other upper

I'm a glock/LWRC whore....my REPR has been perfect. Fit and finish can't be touched.... but you'll pay for it

Noveske uppers are ArmaLite pattern FYI, so LWRC would not work with those.

IMO, go with the ArmaLite. Piston guns are a solution to a nonexistant problem.

I know a couple people who had to send theirs back for mag reasons and poor accuracy, and IIRC they were fixed.

Personally I don't see what it can do that an Armalite SASS can't. Seems to be all personal taste. Me I'd take difference in $$$$$ and buy ammo...

I have a REPR 20" w Geissele match trigger.

My thoughts on the REPR are:

Fit and finish is flawless - a very impressive build, solid and exact. All lines are crisp, clean, and deliberate. The build exceeded my expectations.

I love the left hand charging handle - my guess is that it will become a standard feature on all AR10 type platforms in the near future. That is very smart design.

The gas block is great to turn it into a single shot platform. But I am not shooting this suppressed, yet.

I have not tested the accuracy rigorously yet. I have only fired about 60 rounds through it with Nightforce 2.5x10 scope with 165 gun show reloads. That day was not conducive to accuracy, but I was shooting about 1 MOA.

I have recently got some Black Hills, FGM, and some other to try and will post result this weekend after I shoot it on Friday.
I have a USO SN-3 to mount on this for testing.

I am hopeful for sub moa accuracy.

It is a very expensive gun at about #$3500.00, and I did have a problem with the provided magazine not functioning in the weapon. I called LWRC, they were aware of the problem. Yesterday they followed up with me, sent a shipping call tag, and will take the rifle in for repair/modification and promised ~3 day turnaround.
I am happy with their level of commitment on this issue.

I will post again with a shooting report and more pix.

If I remember correctly, you should be able to turn your SASS into a single shot, you just have to add another detent position on the gas knob.

FWIW the Armalite SASS was one of the best running guns I've seen when doing high speed video. It is heavy though, but ours had a PRS stock and a huge scope, etc.

Until you shoot suppressed and then you see the "non existant" problem with DI guns.

Thanks for all the great input. I do like the SASS a lot but I guess I really want to know if it was worth the extra money for the LWRC. I would like to see some accuracy tests on the REPR. Please keep the suggestions coming.

I have felt the rifle but have not shot one yet. I do own an LWRC M6A3 now and I agree with the guys that say the fit and finish is awesome. Besides the piston system are there huge gains in getting the REPR?

I do shoot suppressed. I lube every now and then and do some light cleaning every 1000-1500rds and have no issues. A piston gun will run dirty with a suppressor too, the don't stop the gas blowback coming from the chamber when shooting suppressed.

I don't see why the REPR would be more accurate. They are both rifles built to fit a similar price range with similar features. All you'd really be buying is a piston. I don't know about you, but I never get rid of good shooting rifles.

Follow up. I've had good results with 168 AMAXs, 1 MOA on semi (gas port on "N" for normal") and .68 moa (average of three groups of 5 shots) set on "C" for closed. No mag issues to date.

I've got a DPMS LR-308, re-barrelled with a Fulton Armory 18" tube, free float rail, JP trigger, Leupold VX-II scope, Ops Inc 12th Model suppressor, total investment right at $3,000

It will shoot 0.50 MoA

Not sure what a REPR costs, or what it can shoot.

I'd recommend a piston gun for a CQB carbine shooting suppressed, or an M-110 clone that'll be used in combat.


But a benchrest gun that will never be fired more than 100 times at a single range session, I see no use for a piston.

stay with your armalite. i got a super sass, and shoot it suppressed, very accurate gun .5moa all day, you may have to clean ur gas gun more often, but shooting suppressed you do anyway.

would the piston system on the repr work on a sass? That doesnt fix ur mag problem but may be a cost efective solution to ponder and research.
