Can you tell me about SWFA super sniper scopes? How good are they? When comparing these to other heavy duty scopes where do these scopes stand? How clear? How bright ? Etc etc.

They are good where it matters the most, zero rention, tracking, and return-to-zero. If you move up to the HD line, the glass is quite good too. If they are lacking, it is in lacking some of the features found in the newer scopes. There will always be a couple in my safe...

The only HD SS I’ve had have been the 10x HD and the 3-9. They are both noticeably brighter to my eyes than the straight 6x and the straight 10x. Whether they are are worth the extra $ you’d have to decide. Since I don’t have either the 3-9 or the 10x HD anymore and do have a regular 10x, maybe the HD wasn’t worth it to me. I guess when you get into the HD money, for a few $ more, there were other scopes that had as good glass, tracked as well and had more features I wanted.

I picked up a used mil/mil 10x42 for my 700P and it blew me away. Haven't seen anything come close at the same price point. My only complaint is sometimes the turret will only zero with the hashmarks in the middle. Set screws just indented the brass too much with use.

Started out buying a 10x42 side focus and then bought the 5-20HD one Black Friday sale and then a 3-9 HD another BF sale. Glass in the HD models is better than the others and all track great. Great value in the SS line. Good luck!

I have owned 4 SSHD's, the 5-20's. For the price, they are some of the most robust optics I have ever used. Everything on them I would classify as "good." Not great, but far from shitty. Presently, my chief complaint is the reticle. At the time of their release, it was pretty damn good (IMO). However, as we have all witnessed, the evolution of reticles has far, far surpassed their mil-quad offering.

Many years ago, I had actually emailed Chris Farris (the owner of SWFA) and asked him if he would be developing their reticle line. I got a rather emphatic "no" as a response which sucks because I think they would have remained much more competitive. To be honest, if they would develop their reticles and offer a 34mm tube, I would still be a buyer (I would still be a buyer even if they stayed with a 30mm tube).

It has been observed that they have maintained their value also. Used models, with illum, are still hovering around 900.00 or so.

Robust scopes, mushy "clicks" excellent warranty when needed. Fixed scope due to their simplicity are inherent;y more robust.
I have a 5-20 HD purchased during one of their sales. A 16X on a varmint 223 AR and a 10X on a customized 10/22. I first used a Super Sniper when sold by Tasco, I mounted on a "scope eater" M1A. No issues.
For the price (still made in Japan), reliability and customer support they are a great value. Relative low depreciation.
