Almost finished with this build, of what was supposedly a stock modified by an armourer in Viet Nam. Even if the old guy's story is bogus, I still think it's a pretty cool build. The story was he did three stocks like this while over there, and the other two were the C stcks, but this it the only one he had left in his collection of odds and ends. The work is super clean, and you could see that it had been glass bedded at one time. The metal is from a pawn shop sporter I rescued, and is dated 5-43. Had to scrounge for bands and a few other bits to make it all come together. The top wood is actually for an 03 that I cut down to fit, kind of a bastard rig, but I like it anyway. Wasn't trying to build a clone, just wanted to have something fun and unique to shoot. On reccomendations of the guy I got the stock from, I put a T 10 on it. He said they had bought everything they could get their hands on from the PX in Okinawa, and the T 10 was by far the best thing out there at the time. I have done some research on the PX side of the story, and although vauge, it kinda jives. Was just wondering if anyone might be able to verify or

shoot it down. There are a world full of fake everythings these days, and as I said, it really doesn't matter, this build is one of my favorites anyway. Sorry for the crap pics, I used my phone. Can get some better ones if anyone is interested. TIA...

It's not nor ever was a stock issued with the M1903A4 however, in Vietham like every other war, all kinds of modifications were done with just about ever weapon you could find.
Just for information, the CMP Forums started a special catagory so people can check to see if something is real or a repo.

Thanks for the info, and the compliment. Always thought the a4 used either the scant or the C stock? Figured the old guy was full of caca, but I don't care, the woodwork is super clean, and it shoots just under 1 minute of angle. Still want to bed and float it, and do a nice crown to see if it will tighten up any more. Thanks again for the replys...

Many a stock was re-tuned/modified to the shooters liking. Ran into an old guy at a local range last year that was in the re-build area for NM M14's, X, an M21's an E-2's at AAD
I described some of the mods I'd seen/used an he laughed an said he remembered ones like those coming thru. He said, the shop guys were amazed at the ability, an ingenuity of stuff thought up an modified in the field. The mod that puzzled them the longest, was the hole drilled in the gas plug, until one of the real old guys came in an looked it over an made comment to why it was there.
Not everything in a TM, is in stone when GI's get involved.

What Kraig said . . . happens in every war.
In 'Nam the ground guys would take the Army "MULES" little motorized vehicles that looked like motorized liters and soup them up and race them up and down the runways.
They'd order brush on chrome from the States and do the rims and other parts, rebuild the engines, etc . . . .
