With the way things have been going I’ve been thinking of putting my suppressed mpx in my truck. I always carry on my person and also have a spare pistol in my “get home” bag. I would like to have something with a little more range and more rounds, I’m wondering what would happen if my suppressor ever got stolen? Is having it in your vehicle not in your “possession” ? Will that get you in a jack pot with the ATF anymore than having a standard firearm stolen?

IANAL. But, that seems like a slippery slope to me. Will you be the ONLY person in this vehicle? If not, does getting out of the car to fill the tank and leaving your wife in the vehicle with the suppressor violate the law (assuming the suppressor is owned by you as an individual and not by a trust that she is a subordinate trustee of)? I like the idea of it myself and if I was going to the be the only person in my vehicle all day and had the means to secure the weapon while I was out of the vehicle, I would consider it. But I would likely consult with my attorney first.

@Docsherm Do you cross state lines with that sbr? If so, do you have an approved form 20 every time? Just curious, I own sbrs and have done form 20s but lately I just have a pistol lower to take with me so I don’t have to let big brother now my whole life and travel plans.

A vehicle is a glass box on wheels. I never leave a firearm in a vehicle for more than a few minutes (stop at a gas station, for example). Even that is a calculated risk.

It is a calculated risk, but I like having it available. Here's my truck gun at the moment. I keep an old work flannel over it most of the time. Out of site, out of mind.
I have an SBR'd MPX, but it's more of a travel gun that stays folded in a normal backpack. Hard to beat the versatility of 5.56. The other gun that gets switched out Is the 6.5 grendel.

I keep my mpx in a back pack also, in the backseat of my truck. It's nice to know it's close at hand if some of the things that are being discussed here and other places really does cook off.

I've taken to keeping a suppressed SBR 300 BO in a backpack. That way I don't have to leave it in the vehicle. Obviously this is not for immediate self defense, like the handgun. These just don't feel like normal times and I must admit I'm kind of comfortable with a "security blanket".

No, I do not cross state lines..... if i would i would simply remove the stock and put a brace on it. It is only an SBR if it is configured as an SBR. Put a 16 inch upper on it and it is just a rifle...... with an way overpriced lower.

I'm reviving this thread because I am building a new truck gun. It will be with me in the city and country since I make a lot of miles in a day. How are you storing your rifle in the pickup so that it is not obvious yet easy to get to? If I was out in the county it would just sit in the passenger seat, same as always. Old School roof mount is an option, but damn my head already gets close to rubbing the carpet.

Do they still make the over visor rifle mounts?

If so, they are mounted in the screw holes for your visors and then visors are mounted to the bottom.
You lose something like 2.5" of view out of the top of your windshield. Being tall, that's an issue. If you're short (Insert Frank jokes here) then it's not any issue.

Either way, they are handy because the rifle can be stored with the barrel pointed in the correct direction.

Depending on the truck model, there are some under the rear seat options that might be quick enough. Really depends how quick you want access.

I truly believe that people overthink the whole NFA to the point that they do nothing because of over analysis.

I carry a loaded SBR with a can when i have to travel nowdays. I am allowed to carry a loaded firearm in my state. I am allowed to own NFA in my state.

End of thought process.
That.

I live very close to a state line so if I’m going to cross it I swap out the SBR for a braced pistol built for the purpose.

Most of my travels involve hundreds of miles through enemy-held territory (MD, NY, MA, CT) so carrying an AR or even a handgun can be a PITA. I just abide by FOPA, do the speed limit, and hope for the best. I do not want to get pulled over with high capacity magazines, an AR-15 (SBR or otherwise), and a silencer in NY!

This is not my pic

I have an f150 and I'm debating something like this....quick to grab

I guess some who say....."how would you hide it when you get out of truck to prevent theft...etc?"

My answer would be = it comes WITH me 😎
