First all I know someone is going to tell me to "use the search function as these topics have been discussed extensively". Well I already have and have learned a lot, but I have specific questions for my own situation.

I don't own a suppressor I have actually never even seen one. But I am sick of the of the muzzle blast coming of the brake on the .338 Lapua especially while hunting when ear plugs become a pain. I will be buying a Desert Tactical SRS in the near future and this will be the primary use for my suppressor.
I am looking for a good suppressor that isn't too heavy, around the 20 oz range, and not too expensive around 2k give or take. Spending that much on a suppressor I want to get my money worth. I want to have it for the 338 Lapua primarily but will also be putting on the .308 SRS barrel and want to get my Remington sendero 300 um threaded for the suppressor as well. Yes I know the 338 suppressor won't work as well on the .30 cal guns but it will be better than nothing, and like I said I want to stretch the use of the expesive suppressor. So which suppressor do you think would best suit my needs?
I am also not sure of how the suppressors attach. Is it simply threaded, are the SRS barrels already ready for suppressors or do I need an adapter of some kind, and would any competent smith be able to thread my sendero for the suppressor?
A couple questions about buying one. I live in Fargo ND, how do I find a local class III dealer to transfer for me, besides just asking around? And the way I understand I have to pay for the suppressor in full and than it sits at the dealer until the form 4 is approved right? So what if (not that there is any reason I wouldn't) you weren't approved and could get the suppressor? I am sure if I can just find the class III dealer and talk to them they can help me with this stuff.
thanks to anyone who read my long winded post and will offer advice or information

Re: Suppressor help

20oz range? That is going to be hard, I would guess there are none in that requirement. You could get it under 20oz if you were getting a 30 caliber can. But even then, most of those cans are 25+ozs. With a .338LM you are going to need a lot of volume in the suppressor for it to be effective. That is a lot of powder you are burning.

Most suppressors for bolt guns are screw on. There are a couple that use QD. Which one is better? That's debateable.

If you don't know of any dealers in your area that handles C3 stuff, ask the manufacturer if they know of any dealers they have delt with in your area. If somehow you do not get approved, you can still sell it, but the dealer will have to transfer it since it's on a Form 3, not a Form 4. There are also various class 3 boards out there will also know any dealers in your area.

Re: Suppressor help

Contact 737Shark on the hide. He makes the Shark Suppressors and I believe you will be pleased with the product. they are titanium and are on the lighter side of things. Great DB reduction too.

Explain what you are trying to accomplish and I bet you will be surprised!

If the 20oz range is not possible lets just say the lighter the better as long as it is in my price range. I definitely want it to be under 2 lb.

Re: Suppressor help

I contacted SWR a month ago about the .338 Omega and they told me they don't offer that now. Have a look at the SRT .338 ShadowLM in TI. Good can, weight is in the range you want, and considerably less than your $2K budget.

Re: Suppressor help

Think I am going with the SRT Shadow LM Ti. Sounds like a nice item and only weighs 17 oz. Good price at $1650. Only problem is the nearest C3 I can find in North Dakota is in Minot. Over 4 hours from where I live.

It is only sold and offered under contract.

Re: Suppressor help

From your original post I gathered your primary use for this can is hunting. Correct me if I'm wrong. Some states don't allow hunting with a can. I believe MT is one of them. Don't know about ND. You may want to look into this before shelling out all that money for a nice can you can't use the way you want to.

Re: Suppressor help

There is nothing in the ND proclamation about suppressors. I will find out for sure though. Either way I guess it doesn't matter. I will use it for hunting if I can, but a majority of my time is on the range so I am getting one either way.

Re: Suppressor help

I have 5 cans. 3 are AAC (Advanced Armament Corp.) They are very good quality and sound supression. Go to the dealer locator link and they will have your local dealer. Any class III dealer should be able to return your money to you in the event that you so not pass the check. If they do not give you that promise then you should not use them. All Oklahoma dealers give this option and I could not imagine someone trying to screw you on a deal like that. With that being said if they do not stock the AAC 338 can there may need to be a special arrangment made.

Once you have shot with a can you will never look back and will soon have one for all the calibers you own. My silencers are some of the best investments I have ever made.

Re: Suppressor help

A noted Canadian,no,no I mean Texan, yeah that's it, but some kind of connection with Canadian or a Canadian, real hot shot High Power shooter, he uses a .338 can for all of his suppressed high power shooting, including the .308 and .243. I'm told he has different muzzle caps, but that would require multiple stamps, too, so I'm not too sure about that part. I got the info from his long time silly wet spotter/partner.
I figure the OP will be tickled pink with the performance of his .338 can with the sub-calibers.

Re: Suppressor help

Multiple stamps? 1 stamp for 1 can. The can can go onto any gun that you can make it fit. Muzzle caps? I have never heard of those. Most of the time if you are going to shoot for instance a 338 can on a 308 you will have to have the 308 threads matched to whatever barrel threads the 338 has. I my 30 cal can is a 5/8x24 so if I were going to shoot it on a 223 the 223 just needs to have 5/8x24 threads and I am good to go. Or, I have a 30 cal can that is a quick attach so you just need to have the same muzzle addapter. When going from a 308 to a 223 for instance you will just loose a little bit of the suppression. Say the 223 will only be about 95% supressed. I figure it is better than having to buy another 223 can and stamp and it sounds just fine.

The only other thing to condider is to make sure that a 338 can is not going to interfear with the site picture on the smaller calibers due to the larger diameter of the can.
